     A marriage settlement between Ellen Wilson and John Rich was made on 30 January 1618. Omnibus ... Richard Riche de Royd in parish of Penistone yeoman - in consideration of a marriage between John Riche my son & heir apparent & Helen Wilson one of the daughters of Christopher Wilson of Bromhead yeoman to be had & solemnized & in fulfilment of an engagement between me & sd Christopher Wilson - have given to Edward/Richard Riche of Mylne house and Richard Wilson of Oughtibridge hall yeo [as trustees] - my house at Thurleston - another house & barn there & all my houses & lands there - & the messuage in Thurlston Meer called Raynow - my close called Richston Carr in Thurlston - to hold to the purposes mentioned in said indenture.
Ellen Wilson married John Rich, son of Richard Rich and Frances Priest, circa 1618 in Yorkshire. She was married to John Rich of Royd, Penistone in 1618, afterwards to Christopher Marsden about 1620.
     In John Rich's will dated 4 February 1626/27 in Penistone, Yorkshire, Ellen Wilson was named as executrix of the estate; His will mentions his children Edward, Sara and Maria Rich, his pregnant wife Ellin Rich, John Rich and Aymor Rich.
     In the name of god Amen. The Fourth day of February 1626. I John Riche of Roid in the parish of Peniston & county of York yeoman being sick in body and in good & perfect remembrance praised be god make this my last will & testament
     First I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty god hoping
assuredly to be saved by the death and passion of Christ Jesus and my body to be buried in the parish church or churchyard of Peniston And for my worldly goods my will is that they be disposed in manner and form following.
     First I give and bequeath to EDWARD Rich my son and heir one silver ring which my Father did give me
     Item I give and bequeath to Sara Rich & Marie Rich within my two daughters and to that Child or Children that is nowe within the womb of my wife of the said Ellen Rich the half part of that house --- and land in Thurlestone which is now in the tenure and occupation of Christopher Maresden
     Item my will is and I give full power and authority to Ellen my wife whom I make [full crossed out] executor of this my last will and testament to sell convey and assure two Closes lying and being in Thurlestone Meare in the County of York which I lately purchased of John Maresden of Fenwicke called and known by the names of the Rie Roide and Rought Inlake and are now in the occupation of William Maresden his Father And the price & money received for the said two Closes to help for ^to the paying & discharging of my debts if so be that if my other goods will not extend to pay my debts Provided always that if my other other goods will pay my debts That then the said two Closes or the price of them to be reserved unto my younger children before expressed
     Item I ^bequeath the tuiton of all my Children Edward Rich Sara Rich
and Marie Rich & to that child or children within the womb of my wife unto Ellin Riche my said wife ^ John Rich Aymor Rich These being witnesses Christopher [Rich crossed out] Wilson, Edward Rich.

Ellen Rich married Christopher Marsden as her second husband, in 1628 in Yorkshire. He was of Carlcoats. Ellen Wilson was an executor of John Rich's estate on 6 March 1627/28 in the Prerogative Court of York.

1492 8 Hen VII At the Great Court of Thomas Archbishop of York & and his companions the feoffees of George, Earl of Shrewsbury on the Thursday next after the feast of St Michael the Archangel 8 Hen VIII - John Wilson son & heir of Christopher Wilson came & asked to hold according to the custom of the manor after the decease of Christopher his father - a messuage called Bromhead with its appurts & 12 acres of land in Wygtwisell & Westmondhalgh at the rent of 5/1- er anun : & a messuage & 3 crofts in Dwarriden & 46 acres of land - provided also that Ellen mother of the sd John should have the profit till John is of full age, she carrying herself well towards the sd John, his brothers & sisters, under the supervision of Robert Eyre sr. Esq & other supervisors named in the last will of the sd Christopher & when John is of full age sd Ellen to have an annual rent from the lands of 13/4.

     1530 June 15 - Willl of Richard Wilson of Wortley Lordship - in which he mentions his wives Isabel & Margaret - gives part of his messuage to Christopher Wilson - gives several small legacies - & the mass of his estate to pious uses. [R.C. #834]. Obviously not his son Richard but probably related.

      1565 Sheffield, 17 April - Soke of Bradfield : Jury say that Richard Morton owes John Wilson and Margaret his eife [Ronksley #3128].
     John Wilson was mentioned in the manorial court roll dated 9 March 1535 1535 March 9 Court at Sheffield. Came John Wilson of Bromhead & surrendered - a messuage called Bromhead & 12 acres in Wygtwisell & Westmondhalgh - & another messuage & 3 crofts in Dwarsden after death of said John & one Margaret his wife to use of Arthur Wilson son & heir of John & the heirs male of his body - remainder to Christopher Wilson another son of said John & the heirs male of his body - remainder to George another son & the heirs male of his body - remainder to John another son & the heirs male of his body - remainder to the right heirs of John the father.
     John Wilson was mentioned in a deed dated between 14 January 1535 and 1536. Jan 16th 27 Hen VIII [1536] - This indenture between John Wilson of Bromhead the elder yeoman of the one part and Richard Charlesworth of Holmfirth yeoman of the other - witnesses that variances have arisen between them respecting - messuages in Westmondhalgh & Dwarriden whereof part are holden by charter & part by copy & also of the custody & marriage of Christopher & Thomas sons of Richard Wilson son & heir apparent of the foresayd John late decd. - it is now agreed by the counsel & advice of master Anthony Nevile one of the council of the Rt Hon the Earl of Shrewsbury that Richard Charlesworth shall have the custody the said Christopher & Thomas & their marriage & the said John Wilson granteth that he & all his sons shall make a sufficient assurance of all the aforsaid messuages by charter or copy or both the use of the foresaid John & Margaret his wife Christopher & Thomas upon the Feast of Pentecost next - and for this the said Charlesworth hath paid to John Wilson £23/6/8. Witness Thomas Oxpring, Ralph Otis/Oks,Brian & others.
     John Wilson made a will dated 14 June 1536. Will of John Wilson - to be buried in the church of St Nicholas at Bradfield - to the High Altar stone there 4d. - has made Robert Barber & Edmund Jackson of Darwent his attornies to surrender for him with the Lords Court of Haversedge - all his lands in Darwent dale - to the use of Arthur my son & heirs of his body to be made sure to him - gives to him also his horn saddle and bridle sword & buckler best jacket & best doublet - a priest to sing a trentall of masses at St John's Altar in Bradfield church for my soul with all my good friends souls & to be paid for by my exec - wife Margaret to have the profits of all his lands in Hallamshire with such part of the goods as she ought to have - to my daughter Elizabeth 5/10/- viz 4/- by her mother & 23/4 each by her brothers Christopher, George & John over & above 6/10/- which I have given her myself - residue to be disposed of for the good of his soul - wife Margaret sons Christopher George & John his execs - Witnesses Sir Wm Hedon Jh: Priest of Bradfield, John Greyves, John Wainwright, Henry Ibbotson & Richard Hattersley.

     John died after 14 June 1536 in Bradfield, YKS.
     His will was proved on 1 July 1536.
