John Raymond Ross

(23 September 1888 - 12 December 1976)
     He attended schools in Virginia City, Copperopolis and the University of Nevada
for a short time. In his earlier years he worked as a machinist, later working
as a salesman for different companies, but always had an interest in mining. They were always searching for gold. Whe he retired they moved to some land on which there was a mine that his father operated many years before. They worked it a little, but became interested in publishing a small newspaper which was entirely related to mining. They published it almost up to the time they died.
They did a lot of speaking and crusading in trying to get the price of gold raised. He once testified before a Congressional Committee in Washington, D.C.
They always said that the mines had shut down because the cost of getting the gold out of the ground was too much. Unfortunately he did not live to see the price of gold raised. He was a big man, fair haired, blue eyed and nice looking, but a bit of a rebel all his life. John Raymond Ross was born on 23 September 1888 in Petaluma, Sonoma County, California, USA. He was the son of Gilbert MacMillan Ross and Ellen L Ward.

     John Raymond Ross married Alice May Hovard on 29 September 1917 in Stockton, San Joaquin County, California, USA.
     John died on 12 December 1976 in Stockton, San Joaquin County California, aged 88. He was buried on 15 December 1976 in Park View Cemetery, Stockton.

Olive Alice Ross

     Olive Alice Ross was born on 19 July 1918 in Stockton, San Joaquin County, California, USA. She was the daughter of John Raymond Ross and Alice May Hovard. Olive Alice Ross was christened on 29 June 1924 in St John's, Stockton, California.
     She attended schools in Stockton and the College of the Pacific for one year, where
she met Frank. Attended business college and went to work as a secretary in a
law office during the depression as they couldn't afford to marry. From there worked at a temporary job for the local utilities company, then to a U.S Dept of Agriculture office and then married. Worked at various jobs while the children were at school. Built home at Aptos in 1978, commuting until
retirement there in 1980. Enjoys gardening and genealogy. Olive was a genealogist adn a major source of the Anerican branch of this family.
     Olive Alice Ross lived at 721 Via Palo Alto, Aptos, California, USA.
     Olive died in 2010 in USA.

Col Herbert Erskine Ross

(5 September 1919 - circa 2010)
     Col Herbert Erskine Ross was born on 5 September 1919 in Stockton, San Joaquin County, California, USA. He was the son of John Raymond Ross and Alice May Hovard. Herbert is retired as a pilot in the United States Air Force. He returned to school then taught aeronautics at a local junior college and is now retired again.
