     Edward Colbert was born circa 1802 in Newtown, Cork, Ireland. Newtown may be a village in the parish of Shandrum, or the townland in Ballyhay parish, or even Kilmocomoge parish.
Edward Colbert served in the military between 1825 and 1845. He enlisted in the 75th Regt of Infanty aged 23, at Fermoy. He served 20 years & 170 days, serving abroad for 13 years at the Cape of Good Hope. Unfit for futher service. 21 May 1825 to 6 Nov 1845. Aged 43 years and 7 months. Height 5' 8 1/4 inches, hair turning grey, eyes: grey, dark complexion, labourer. #384: Private Edward Colbert. Conduct: extremely good. Discharged 6 Nov 1845. [WO97/865].

     Edward died on 16 July 1942 in Syria. There is a memorial inscription at Leongatha cemetery. The WW2 nominal roll gives 27 June 1941 as his death date and 1912 as his birth date.

     Edward John Colbert was born in 1895 in Maryborough, Victoria. He claimed he was born at Carisbrook on enlistment in WWI. He was the son of John Colbert and Mary Jane Robertson.
     Edward served as a private in the 46th Battalion between 1915 and 1917. He enlisted at Carisbrook on 26 January 1915 aged 20. Served in the Middle East then England, France & Belgium with the 46th & 65th Battalions. He received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. He claimed to have been born at Carisbrook and was a 23 year old labourer when he enlisted on 26 January 1915. His next of kin was given as his father J Colbert, of Almare, Jane Street, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, Queensland.
     Edward was killed in action on 11 October 1917 in Flanders, Belgium. His name is recorded on the Menin Gate memorial at Ypres.
     The administration of his estate was granted on 21 February 1919 at Victoria.

Edward John Colbert was listed in a directory dated 1937 as a boot maker at Leongatha. Ted had two shops at Tankerville Arms Hotel, Fitzroy - library and shoe repair (knew Squizzy Taylor). Another shop was in Lygon Street, East Brunswick with Bill Hoy. Two shops were at Weston Street, Brunswick near the Quarry Hotel. He also worked at Bair St, Leongatha and lived behind the shop.
     Edward resided at 24 Crown Street, Richmond.
     Edward died on 10 March 1978 in St Vincent's Hospital, Fitzroy, Victoria, aged 73. He was cremated on 14 March 1978 in Fawkner.
     His will was proved on 5 July 1978. Edward James! Colbert, retired of Richmond.

     Edward Michael Colbert was born on 11 July 1878 in Haddon, Victoria. Son of Edward Colbert, 38, miner, & Mary (O'Hagan), 34. He was the son of Edward Colbert and Mary Hagan.
     Edward Michael Colbert was placed in an orphanage from 9 June 1886 to 9 October 1892 in Ballarat. On 9 June 1886 (a month after his mother died) Edward, Ellen, Charles & Michael were placed in the Ballarat Orphanage. His father Edward was described as a splitter, Roman Catholic, born county Cork, Ireland, who arrived in the colony in 1857 and paid 5/- a week for each of the children. On 9 October 1892 he left the orphanage (6 months after his siblings) on the application of his father and proceeded to Gippsland. He joined his father in Leongatha clearing scrub on farms according to family tradition. He rode to Leongatha from Ballarat.
     In Edward Colbert's will dated 23 September 1898 in Leongatha, Victoria, Edward Michael Colbert was named as heir.
He was keen on racing and his father disapproved. Had a horse called Elsie.
Edward Michael Colbert married Margaret Robertson, daughter of James Robertson and Mary Ann MacPherson, on 29 March 1902 in Christ Church (Anglican), Maryborough, Victoria. They were both of Maryborough, he described himself as a miner aged 23. She was aged 24 and occupied in domestic duties. The witnesses were Robert Dean and Martha Robertson..

     Edward and Margaret were registered as a labourer & home duties at Maryborough on the electoral rolls between 1919 and 1921l. They were still registered at Leongatha in 1917.

     Edward and Margaret were registered as Edward Michael Colbert at 9 Roosevelt Street, Coburg, on the electoral rolls between 1931 and 1937l. He was also listed in the 1931 Sands & McDougal directory for that year.
     Edward was registered at 35 Shackell St, Coburg, on the 1942 electoral roll.
     Edward died of heart disorder/stroke - at the tram stop on 1 February 1947 in Coburg, Victoria, aged 68. He was buried on 3 February 1947 in New Melbourne General Cemetery, Fawkner.
