Harriett Ruby

     Harriett Ruby was born on 24 January 1841 in Abbotskerswell, Newton Abbot RD, Devon. She was christened on 24 January 1841 in Abbotskerswell. She was the daughter of George Ruby and Ann Sergeant.

     Harriett Ruby married Reuben Thomas Walling, son of James Walling and Ann Unknown, on 6 April 1860 in Kingskerswell, Devon. They were married by Francis Man, Baptist minister.
     Harriett Ruby and Reuben Thomas Walling arrived in 1860 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada. According to Dorothy Turcotte, they came to Canada by sailing ship, a six weeks' journey, on their honeymoon. She carried the following letter of recommendation from her church: Kingskerswell, Devon 7 April 1860: This is to certify that the bearer of this, Harriet Ruby our beloved sister in the Lord stands an accredited & respected member of the church of Christ worshipping in this place & that the church cordially commend her to the care and fellowship of any body of Christians with whom she may desire to have future fellowship.      They first lived in Toronto, then pioneered in Haliburton Ontario.
Her grandaughter Ruby Walling Bird has a sampler which Harriet stitched "Harriett Ruby 1853".

     Note that both Reuben and his sister named their eldest daughter Lydia, which was the name of their sister. Reuben Thomas Walling was born on 17 January 1828 in Kingskerswell, Devon. He was the son of James Walling and Ann Unknown.

Public baptism of William Ruby, son of Geo & Ann, baker, with his sister Dinah Ruby, William was privately baptised 20 April 1848. She was the daughter of George Ruby and Ann Sergeant. Henry, Harriett, Elizabeth, George, Dinah and William were listed as the children of George Ruby in the 1851 census in 'Bickley Farm', Ipplepen, Devon. George and Dinah were listed as the children of George Ruby in the 1861 census in Ipplepen, Devon.
