Henry Kenneth Garton

     Henry Kenneth Garton was born on 16 May 1907. He was an executor of Henry St George Murray MacRae's estate on 25 February 1963 in Exeter.
     Henry died on 1 August 1988 in Southwark RD, Surrey, England, aged 81.

     Agnes Gascoigne was born circa 1401. She was the daughter of Chief Justice William Gascoigne and Joan Pickering (Greystock).
Agnes Gascoigne married Robert Constable (of Flamborough). They were great-grandparents of Sir Robert Constable.
     Agnes died after 1466.

Ann Gascoigne married Sir Robert Plumpton, son of William Plumpton and Joan Wintringham, circa November 1477 in Yorkshire. They had issue: Jane wife of Richard Mauleverer, Margaret, Anne, William, Robert, Dorothy & Elizabeth.
     Ann died in 1504.

In Michaelmas term 1585, Bridget [daughter of Sir William Gascoigne of Gawthorpe], widow of Matthew Redman claimed against Anthony Mawde, gent, one third of 13 messuages and lands in Dunkeswicke, as her dower. The defendant said that she ought not to have dower because she left her husband at Harewood and went to live in adultery with William Gascoigne, esq. at Caley and lived with him until the death of Matthew. The plaintiff denied this. To be tried by a jury. Result not found. [Common Pleas Roll, Mich 27-8 Eliz. m.2405]..

Elizabeth Gascoigne married Sir William Ryther, son of Sir William Ryther and Maud or Matilda de Umfreville, before 1435. Gascoigne pedigree states Elizabeth daughter of Wm Gascoigne & Jane married Sir Wm Ryther & her sister Ann married Richard Redman. They had 2 sons and 3 daughters.
     Elizabeth died before 1437.

     Elizabeth Gascoigne was born in Gawthorpe, Yorkshire. She was the daughter of Sir William Gascoigne and Alice Frognall.
     A contract for the marriage of Elizabeth Gascoigne and Robert Ryther was signed before 1509. His contracted wife Elizabeth, the daughter of Sir William Gascoigne of Gawthorpe, afterwards (by 1510) married Richard Redman who was Lord of Harewood from 1530. They were children, and the marriage terminated with the death of young Robert Ryther, probably around 1508 or so.
Elizabeth Gascoigne married Robert Redman as her second husband, circa 1510..

Elizabeth Gascoigne

     Elizabeth Gascoigne was the daughter of William Gascoigne.
Elizabeth Gascoigne married John Aske. In the Visitation under Aske she is described as daughter of the Chief Justice, but under Gascoigne/Gaskon she is probably the sister of the Chief Justice. The History and Antiquities of Harewood by John Jones (1859) pp 54 - 55 gives Elizabeth, wife of John Aske as the sister rather than the daughter of Chief Judge William Gascoigne. It further says his second wife Joan was the daughter of Sir William Pickering and relict of Sir Ralph Greystoke, Baron of the Exchequer.

      He inherited the entailed lands of his brother William. He married twice and his son by the latter died about 3 years of age so these lands returned to his niece Margaret Gascoigne. Francis Gascoigne was born before 1550?. He was the son of William Gascoigne and Margaret Fitzwilliam.
Francis Gascoigne married Ann Vavasour, daughter of Sir William Vavasour and Elizabeth Calverley, in 1557 in Hazlewood or Hazelwood, Yorkshire.

George Gascoigne

     John Gascoigne and Marmaduke Gascoigne were named in the 1539 muster roll for Gawthorp, Yorkshire. George, Marmaduck & John, esquires, were in the household of Sir William Gascoigne of Gawthorep th'elder, knight, along with 14 archers and 14 billmen.

Margaret Gascoigne

     Margaret Gascoigne was born circa 1531. She was eventually the sole heir to her father of the lands not entailed to heirs male. These lands went to Francis Gascoigne her uncle. She was the daughter of William Gascoigne and Beatrix Tempest.
Margaret Gascoigne married Thomas Wentworth Esq, son of William Wentworth and Catherine Beeston, circa 1557. He acquired Gawthorpe and a claim to two baronetcies via his wife.
She may have married secondly Sir James Harrington.
     Margaret Gascoigne and Thomas Wentworth Esq were mentioned in a deed dated _Hilary term_ ___ 1568/69. 1. Thomas Gargrave, kt, Peter Fretchwell, esq and John Jackson, gent - 2. Francis Gascoigne, esq., and Ann his wife and Thomas Went worthe de Wentworthe, esq., and Margaret his wife; re: Manor of Thorpearche, and 40 messuages, 3 watermills, and a fulling mill with lands in Thorpearche, Halle Parke, Halle Feildes, and Walton, and free fishing in the Wharff. The History of Wharfdale by Thomas Shaw p. 148, states "In the township of Pool there is an old mansion called Caley-Hall, cover with several acres of fine large wood...In or about 1500, it belonged to the Gascoignes, as the old oak pew in Otley church testifies, having the arms of that family, with two initials and '1582' beautifully cut in the door. William Gascoigne married Joan, daughter of Thomas Thwaits, Esq. He died in 1560. His son William married Dorothy, the daughter of Thoams Stillington, Esq. He died in 1578. It next came to the Daltons....
