Harold Bowker

(May 1870 - before 12 March 1932)
     Harold Bowker was born in May 1870 in Newcastle district, New South Wales. He was the son of Richard Ryther Steer Bowker and Lydia Frances Phillips.
     Harold Bowker was on the passenger list, arriving at London, in July 1890. Harold was a veterinary surgeon, in New South Wales.
     Harold Bowker married Lucie or Louisa Ann Cradick in 1916 in Murwillumbah, New South Wales.
     Harold died before 12 March 1932 in Sydney, New South Wales. He was cremated on 12 March 1932 in Sydney.

Edward Ballard Bowker

     Edward Ballard Bowker was born on 6 June 1872 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. He was born 1 January according to his descendants but the Sydney Morning Herald announced: On Saturday, the 6th instant, at her residence, Santoft, New- castle, the wife of Dr Bowker, of a son.. He was the son of Richard Ryther Steer Bowker and Lydia Frances Phillips.
     Edward Ballard Bowker was on the passenger list, arriving at London, England, in 1891.
     Edward matriculated Dentistry at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, between September 1894 and 1897. He had commenced studying medicine at Middlesex Hospital but felt overwhelmed by medicine according to Ben Champion.
His father's diary states, about September 20th Edward starts for Phildaphia 1st class, £49 give him £5 in cash, a draft for £50 and send another draft there...
He became a Doctor of Dental Surgery. Richard RRS Bowker his grandson, claims to have the dental plate from out the front of his surgery at Pennsylvania. Edward was a dentist from 1897,Newcastle, New South Wales. Doctor of Dental Surgery (Pennsylvania). His practices were in Watt St Newcastle and Station Street, Waratah. He lived above the Watt St building until at least 1902.
     Edward Ballard Bowker married Laura Lillian Shelley on 7 April 1900 in St John's, Newcastle, New South Wales. They are supposed to have had a stillborn son [Bruce], but there is no record. An unknown person was listed as a dentist in Station Street in Waratah, New South Wales, in a directory dated in 1901. Edward Ballard Bowker was listed in a directory dated 1904 as E Bowker, dentist at 30 Watt Street, Newcastle. There was another Edward Bowker at 20 Cambridge St, Sydney. An unknown person was listed as E B Bowker, dentist in 30 Watt Street in Newcastle, in a directory dated in March 1907. An unknown person was listed as a dentist in Newcastle, in a directory dated in 1910.
     Edward Ballard Bowker lived at Hunter Street, Fig Tree Point, Toronto, New South Wales.
     Edward Ballard Bowker lived at 'Pinehurst', Pitnacree Rd, East Maitland, New South Wales, after 1915.
     Edward Ballard Bowker lived at Brighton Avenue, Toronto, New South Wales, 1936. They lived two houses past Jarrett St, on the waterfront, going towards Coal Point.
     'Doc', as he was known to all his family, was a tall, good-looking man. He was much loved by his grandchildren, amusing them with stories about a white ghost horse that walked along the verandah and another about a wallaby chasing him down Wallarobba Mountain (part of the Wattagan Range). He had a good sense of humour and often played pranks on people. He loved Paterson and the surrounding Hunter Valley. They had a holiday house at Belmont.
     He moved to Maitland and lived in a very large house now occupied by Mr Haines. In Jan 1882 "Glenellen" a recently erected house on one and a half acres, was occupied by G W F Addison who put it up for sale. It was advertised again 1st July 1882. It was up for sale again 17 October 1894, no occupier mentioned. Edward Bowker, sold to Mr Hain (of Swan, Murray & Hain) in 1913].
     Edward Ballard Bowker lived at 105 Regent Street, Maitland. In later years they lived with their son Ted and his family. The house was converted into two flats after Doc died.
     Edward died on 14 November 1949 in Maitland, aged 77. He slipped on a muddy verandah after a flood and from then he declined. He was cremated in Beresfield, New South Wales.

Dr Cedric Victor Bowker

(24 May 1875 - 27 May 1946)
     Dr Cedric Victor Bowker was born on 24 May 1875 in Sydney, New South Wales. He was the son of Richard Ryther Steer Bowker and Lydia Frances Phillips. Dr Cedric Victor Bowker graduated in 1898 from Sydney University, with a Bachelor of Medicine (MB).
     Cedric was registered as Cedric Victor Bowker, doctor at Sydney Hospital, on the 1903 electoral roll. He was the informant at the death of Richard Ryther Steer Bowker, on 3 April 1903. Dr Cedric Victor Bowker witnessed the probate of the estate of Richard Ryther Steer Bowker on 24 August 1903 in New South Wales; Duty on his estate was paid on 24 August 1903. The estate was valued at £18,260. At his death he owned land in Georgetown Rd, Georgetown comprising 2 parcels of 6 acres, 3 roods 4.5 perches and 2 roods 11.5 perches, being parts of Lot 1A of a partition of part of 35 acres of allotment 77 (portion 135 of parish). These lands were transferred in 1905 and 1907. Under a Torrens title he held (1) Vol.126 fol.74 in respect of 1 rood, part allotment 6 of sect.18 (Denison & Darvall Sts) at Onibyganba in the parish of Newcastle - transferred in 1918 to The Glazed Waterproof Tile Co. Ltd; (2) Vol.117 fol.33 - 1 rood, the residue of allotment 6 of section 18 (Denison St) also transferred in 1918 to the above (both in Carrington); (3) Vol.385 fol.70 - 16.75 perches, being Lot 1 Deposited plan 394 (Darlinghurst Rd) at Darlinghurst - transferred in 1908 to W C & A G Donovan; (4) Vol.96 fol.47 - 2 acres 1 rood - part of the Delamere estate (Yarrannabee Rd) at Darling Point - transferred in 2 parcels in 1913. 1904 Mar 16: Conveyance: executors of the will of R R S Bowker & R S Bowker as trustee re above settlement & children of settlors to Moses Smith of Lots 30, 31, 33-35 (Reg. book 757 no.637) Consideration £800. Lots 22, 24, 26-29 (Title vol.148 fol.17) were transferred (no.384656) same day from Robert Steer Bowker to Moses Paterson, auctioneer - consideration £1600. The land was in turn owned by Daphne Chloris Smith and her son Colin Smith.
     On 7 June 1967 the Registrar General replied to Dr. Ben Champion: In response to your letter dated 6th June, 1967, I ask that you please supply further particulars that will permit of the identification of Bona Vista and the trust deed to which you have referred.
     I might mention that an office copy of the will of Dr. Richard Ryther Steer Bowker was lodged in this Office in connection with Primary Application No. 13206 which resulted in the issue of Certificate of Title Volume 1551 Folio 63 in the names of his executors Robert Steer Bowker of Sydney, Physician, Charles Stanser Bowker of Dungog, Physician, Cedric Victor Bowker of Sydney, Physician, and Elizabeth Steer Rich, wife of George Edward Rich of Sydney, Barrister-at-law for land situated in Georgetown Road, Georgetown (then in the Municipal District of Waratah) and comprising two parcels of 6 acres 3 roods 41/2 perches and 2 roods 11 1/2 perches, being parts of Lot 1A of a partition of part of 35 acres Allotment 77 (Portion 135 of Parish). These lands were the subject of transfers in 1905 and 1907.
     In respect of lands held under Torrens Title, the executors (pursuant to Transmission Application No. 18297) became registered proprietors of the lands in Certificates of Title
(1) Volume 126 Folio 74 in respect of 1 rood part Allotment 6 of Section 18 (Denison & Darvall Streets) at Onibyganba in the Parish of Newcastle - transferred in 1918 to The Glazed Waterproof Tile Co. Limited;
(2) Volume 117 Folio 33 in respect of 1 rood, the residue of Allotment 6 of Section 18 (Denison Street) - also transferred in 1918 to The Glazed Waterproof Tile Co. Limited;
(3) Volume 385 Folio 70 in respect of 16 3/4 perches, being Lot 1 Deposited Plan 394 (Darlinghurst Road) at Darlinghurst transferred in 1908 to W.C. & A.G. Donovan;
(4) Volume 96 Folio 47 in respect of 2 acres 1 rood being part of the Delamere Estate (Yarrannabee Road) at Darling Point, transferred in two parcels in 1913. Estate duty was paid 24 August 1903. Dr Cedric Victor Bowker was listed in a directory dated 1904 as Cedric Bowker, med. pract. at 157 Liverpool St, Sydney. Cedric was a gynaecologist in Sydney. He was listed in a directory dated between 1910 and 1913 as Physician & surgeon at 26 College Street, Sydney.
     Dr Cedric Victor Bowker married Catherine Bell in 1911 in Sydney, New South Wales. Dr Cedric Victor Bowker was the informant at the death of Dr Robert Steer Bowker, on 15 September 1928.
     Cedric died on 27 May 1946 in 'Belwood', Drumalbyn Rd, Bellevue Hill, aged 71. Death: 27 May 1946, Cedric Bowker, M.B., Ch.M., Gynaecologist, Superintendent Sydney Hospital 1901-1905. Hon. Surgeon Sydney Hospital. Retired 1939. Survived by wife and three daughters.
     His will was proved on 23 August 1946 at New South Wales.
