Eliza Maria Popplewell married Edward Leader Williams on 30 August 1852 in London. She died prior to ELW being knighted, but he is a historical figure as the designer and builder of the Manchester Ship Canal..
     Eliza died in May 1860 in Northwich, Cheshire, aged 33. She was buried on 9 May 1860 in Davenahm, Cheshire.

     Elizabeth Popplewell was mentioned in the will of Elizabeth Hunsley dated February 1735. She received a bible from Elizabeth Smith in 1751. The bible is inscribed: Elizabeth Popelwell, the gift of my mother, 1751.
     A marriage settlement between Elizabeth Popplewell and Robert Steer was made on 4 July 1752. Copy of marriage articles: Elizabeth Popplewell younger daughter of Richard Popplewell decd., and Robert Steer of Wakefield, surgeon.
Elizabeth Popplewell married Robert Steer, son of Rev William Steer and Ann Banks, on 6 July 1752 in Belton, Lincolnshire.
At Martinmas (11 November) 17 Elizabeth Popplewell sold property. Final concord re settlement of Temple Belwood Estate, Martimas, 26 Geo II (1752) whereby John Shaw purchased [part of?] estate for £1456.

     Elizabeth Popplewell was party to a land transaction 8 & 9 July 1757 in of the Temple Belwood estate, Belton, Lincolnshire. Deeds of partition between Mr Johnson & Mr & Mrs Steer of Mr Poppplewell's estate. Register as to the lands in Thorne & Hatfield parish at Wakefield 20 June 1760. Note Mrs Ingram has one part with a covenant added from Mr Johnson & Mr Steer for payment.
     Lease and release for partition of Temple Belwood estate - to Katharine Johnson, manor of Temple Belwood and land in Belton, Diddythorpe and Keadby, King's Mill in Crowle and part of Crowle tithes; to Elizabeth Steer, manor of Sandtoft and land in Epworth, Crowle, Ealand, Haxey, Low Burnham, Luddington, Sandtoft and Thorne West Mill in Crowle and part of Crowle tithes. Mortage of £9000 held by Sarah Ingram of Wakefield to be repaid by each moiety equally.
. Robert and Elizabeth was the previous owner of the land sold on 30 April 1762 in Bawtry, Blyth, Yorkshire.
     In Sarah Smith's will dated 26 September 1772, Elizabeth Popplewell was named as heir. ...her nieces Miss Mary Serjeantson, Miss Sarah Smith, Mary Torr, wife of Nicholas Torr of Pontefract, Alice Trant of Himsworth, Sarah Brown of Sheffield, Catharine wife of Allen Johnson of Wakefield, Elizabeth wife of Robert Steer of Sandtoft, co. Lincoln, Mary & Elizabeth Denton of Wakefield and Elizabeth Halliday.
     Elizabeth Popplewell made a will dated 29 February 1780 in Belton, LIN. Will of Elizabeth Steer of Sandtoft, widow, mentions her only son Richard Ryther Popplewell Steer, her sister Catherine wife of Alan Johnson, and gave legacies to her godson Thomas Johnson jr. of Crowle; Ann Clark of Belton & Henrietta Popplewell, daughter of Humphrey Popplewell. She gave a silver tannkard to the church at Belton. To be buried between her husband & father at Belton.
     Elizabeth died on 11 March 1780 in of Sandtoft, Belton, Lincolnshire, aged 61. In the north chancel of Belton church is a memorial: Here also lies interred the body of Elizabeth Steer, relict of Robert Steer, esq. late of Sandtoft Grove, and one of the co-heiresses of Rich. Popplewell, esq. late of Temple Belwood, in the parish of Belton. She departed this life on the 11th day of March, in the year of our Lord 1780, and in the 61st year of her age.. She was buried on 14 March 1780 in Belton.
     Her will was proved on 28 March 1780 at Lincolnshire. 29 February? 1780. Effects under £300.
