     Charles was educated at Sydney Grammar School (Shore), Sydney, New South Wales. He was born on 29 November 1888 in Burwood, New South Wales. He was the son of Hamor Charles Ellison Rich and Agnes May Gadsden. During war time ( between 1915 and 1918) Charles was an officer in the Royal Naval Air Force. AFC, BA: Captain RAF and RNAS, England: Enlisting in London, was commissioned temporary flight second lieutenant in October 1914, and served in command at TRN airship station, Capel, Folkestone, with SS type on anti-submarine patrol, 1916-1917. During 1918 was at Mullion, Cornwall, on patrol convoy work with non-rigid coastal and coastal star types. Transferred 1st April to RAF as captain on the amalgamation and returned temporarily to Australia on demobilisation. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School. Later at St Paul's College.
     Charles Ellison Rich travelled to London, England, on 7 October 1919 per the "Ormonde".
     Charles Ellison Rich married Mary Disturnal on 6 December 1919 in St Luke, Chelsea, London, England. She was of 48 Cheyne Walk, daughter of William Josiah Disturnal, KC.
     Charles Ellison Rich lived at Cotesmore Gardens, Kensington, Middlesex, England, 1925.

     Charles Ellison Rich made a will dated 31 March 1835 in Meerut, India. Charles Ellison Rich of Meerut, province of Hindoostan, merchant; Mr W Scott of Meerut, merchant and Mr W Warburton of Meerut, jeweller the executors; after payment of just debts and funeral expenses the residue to Mr W Scott afsd " ... who will grant a general release from all obligations ..."; signed 31 March 1845 Charles E Rich, witnesses Geo Gibbon, J C Daley H.M.11th Dragoons.
     Charles died before 22 April 1835 in Meerut. He was buried on 22 April 1835 in Meerut.
     The administration of his estate was granted on 24 October 1836 at Bengal, India. The executors declared that the property will scarcely cover funeral expenses and servants wages, some of whom are in arrears.

On the 21st instant, at Holy Trinity Church, by the Rev. J C Grylls, Mr Charles Hamor Rich, to Isabella Tempest, daughter of the late Isaac Bird, Esq.. Rev Charles Hamor Rich was listed in a directory dated 1855 as C H Rich, St James Grammar School, Philip St, Sydney at 13 Cumberland Place, Sydney, New South Wales. Charles was Headmaster of St James Grammar School in 1855, Sydney, New South Wales. St James Grammar school was in Phillip St Sydney, his private residence was no.13, Cumberland Place, Cumberland St. Sydney.. Charles was a Deacon, Curate & Priest of the Church of England at New South Wales, Australia, from 22 July 1855. He was ordained deacon 22 Jul 1855, appointed curate at Holy Trinity, Millers Pt, Sydney (Garrison Church), same year became Curate in charge of Aruluen where he remained till 1864 when he was appointed Chaplain to H M Gaol at Darlinghurst. He was also chaplain at the penal establishment at Cockatoo Island until 1869.

Copy of inventory of goods held - estate valued at under £150. Rev Charles Hamor Rich was listed in a directory dated from 1868 to 1870 as Rev Charles A Rich at 147 Dowling Street, Sydney. Charles was appointed a Minor Canon of St Andrew's at Sydney, in 1869. Charles was the incumbent of S tBartholomews at Pyrmont, from 1869 to 1878. He was listed in a directory dated from 1871 to 1883 as Rev Charles Rich at 128 Palmer Street, Sydney. He was listed in a directory dated from 1885 to 1887 as Rev C H Rich at 'Elamang', Elizabeth Street, Paddington. He was listed in a directory dated between 1888 and 1889 as Rev Canon Charles Rich at 'Esmond', Point Piper Rd, Paddington. I give & bequeath to my trustees hereafter named all my books in trust to permit my sons the said Hamor Charles Ellison Rich & George Edward Rich to select there from such of the same as they may care to retain for their personal use & .... Investments & income to wife for her life & after her death 1 fourth part income lifetime of my daughter Mary Isabella Tempest Rich thence divided between Hamor C E Rich & George E Rich 1 fourth part to Emily Tempest Rich now known as Sister Freda in the Kilburn Sisterhood to provide her during life provided she shall not cease during her life to be one of the Kilburn sisterhood.      Charles died of cirrhosis of liver, dropsy & congestion of the right lung. on 25 July 1901 in 'Mirton', Wallis Street, Woollahra, New South Wales, aged 72. In 1929 a memorial tablet was erected in the St Andrew's Cathedral: Charles Hamor Rich, Minor Canon of this Cathedral 1768-1901. Born 26 Jun 1829. Died 25 July 1901. He was buried on 27 July 1901 in Waverley cemetery, Bronte.
     His will was proved on 23 August 1901. His estate duty was paid on 12 Sep 1901, quoting a death date of the 15 July.
