Silvanus Rich married Mary Wordsworth, daughter of Ralph Wordsworth and Elizabeth Micklethwaite, on 22 April 1652 in St Peter, Sheffield, Yorkshire.
     Silvanus Rich was party to a land transaction on 18 June 1652 in 'Smallshaw', etc, Thurlstone, Penistone, Yorkshire. Exemplification of a final concord: Silvanus Rich plaintiff v. Aymor Rich deforciant re manor of Smallshay, 10 messuages, 4 cottages, 2 mills, 14 gardens, 400 acres of land etc 13/4 rent in Smalshay, Roide, Bolloes, in Thurlston and Thurlston meer for 400 pounds. In 15 days from Holy Trinity 1652.
     In Amor Rich's will dated 18 July 1652 in 'Smallshaw', Thurlstone, Penistone, Yorkshire, Silvanus Rich was named as heir. He was an executor of Amor Rich's estate on 9 August 1652 in the Prerogative Court of York.
He built Bullhouse Hall about 1655. There is a datestone over the door at Bullhouse Hall which shows that Sylvanus & Mary must have replaced the old house. It was extended in 1689.
     Silvanus Rich was mentioned in the will of Christopher Greaves dated 24 September 1657. Silvanus Rich was an executor of Capt William Rich's estate on 18 July 1660 in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury.

     Silvanus Rich made a will dated 22 November 1683 in Penistone. The will of Silvanus Rich of Bullhouse, Penistone, Gentleman, mentions Mary his wife, lands at Thurlestone, John Rich, David Rich of Catshaw, and his son & heir apparent Elkanah Rich. He also mentions his property at Longlands or Langfield, Ecklands, Milhouse (occupied by John Rich & Wm Battey), Catshaw (part of Smallshaw property, occupied and to be owned by David Rich) & Bulhouse. John & David are his cousins' sons.
     In the name of God Amen the twenty second day of November in the thirty fifth yeare of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord Charles the second by the Grace of God King of England Scotland France and Ireland defender of the faith &c AD 1683 I Silvanus Rich of Bulhouse in the parish of Penistone in the County of York ---- being weak in body but of sound and perfect memory praise be given to God for the same and knowing the uncertainty of this life on earth and being desirous to settle my estate in peace doe make this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say, First and principally I commend my soul to Almighty God my Creator assuredly believing that I shall receive full and free remission of all my sins and be saved by the pretious death and merits of my blessed Saviour and Redeemer Christ Jesus And my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be buried in such decent and Christian manner as to my Executors hereafter named shall be thought meete and convenient: And as touching such worldly estate as the Lord in mercy hath lent me my mind and will is that the same shall be ymployed and bestowed as hereafter ---ed by this my will is expressed; And First I doe revoke renounce frustrate & make void all wills by me formerly made and do declare and appoint this to be my last will and testament:

     Silvanus died on 26 December 1683 in 'Bullhouse Hall', Thurlstone, Penistone, Yorkshire. Inscription in the north aisle of the Penistone parish church: Here was interred the body of Sylvanus Rich late of Bullhouse, Gentleman who departed this life December ye 26 Dec AD 1683, aged 56 years.. He was buried on 29 December 1683 in Penistone, Yorkshire.
     His will was proved on 16 July 1684 at PCY. Proved by Maria & Elkanah Rich.
