John died of senile decay on 8 September 1919 in Port of Menteith, Perthshire, aged 88. His obituary in the Stirling Observer stated: The late Mr John Robertson. The death of Mr John Robertson, farmer, Collymoon, which took place on Monday last week, removes one of the oldest residenters from the district. Mr Robertson, who had reached the age of 90 years was a native of the Port, and succeeded his father on the farm of which the deceased and his forebears were tenants on the Cardross Estate for a long period. Collymoon farm is adjacent to the Moss, and Mr Robertson did a good deal in the casting of peats which he supplied in the district & also forwarded to the distilleries where they were largely used. Deceased was an industrious, hard working man & highly esteemed. He was predeceased by his wife some years ago, and is survived by a grown up family. He was buried after 8 September 1919 in Port of Menteith. There is a monumental inscription Port of Menteith churchyard overlooking the lake. In Loving Memory of John Robertson who died at Collymoon 8 Sep 1919 aged 90 years and Helen McGregor his wife died 30 July 1916 aged 84 years. Also their children James 1 year, Helen 5 years. Also their grandson Pte David McKay 16th Royal Warwickshires, killed in action 27 Sep 1918 aged 19 years.
