Charles Christopher Ruby

(24 October 1880 - 23 February 1963)
     Charles Christopher Ruby was born on 24 October 1880 in Ballarat East, Victoria, Australia. His family stated the 27th. He was the son of George Ruby and Sarah Evans. Charles worked for the Bank of Australasia from August 1896 to October 1. His applicants admission paper dated 1 Aug 1896: Born 24 Oct 1880 Ballarat East, introduced by his father Mr Geo Ruby, storekeeper Yarram. Have been employed in my father's business since leaving school in Dec 1894. Received my education at Ballarat & Yarram State Schools. His previous occupation was "assisting in my father's business". His referees were Mr Thomas Clancy, Head teacher of the Yarram State School and the Rev James Francis, Church of England, Yarram.
staff record shows that he was appointed a clerk at Yarram in 1899 then appointed to Melbourne in 1900. In May 1902 he was appointed to Wellington NZ, in September that year he was moved to Gisborne, becoming manager in 1912 in Motu/Krotu?? with an allowance for a horse. In June 1919 he was appointed manager at Whakatane and in February 1920, manager at Dannevirke. In 1932 he was appointed manager at Masterton and he retired from there on 16 October 1944.
HIs grandson added that he also managed the Masterton ANZ during the war years, then transferred back to Dannevirke and retired and died there ( not totally certain on the last transfer but will check with my mother and confirm).
Incidentally the bank branch is Motu (the end of the rail which was originally intended to continue on from Gisborne toward Whakatane and complete the connection to the rail at that end).
     Charles Christopher Ruby arrived in 1902 at New Zealand.
Charles Christopher Ruby married Mary Ethel Bright in 1908 in New Zealand.
Charles Christopher Ruby served in the military between 1914 and 1918. In the military.
     Charles died on 23 February 1963 in Dannevirke, New Zealand, aged 82. He was buried on 25 February 1963 in Dannevirke.

The marriage of Charles Henry Ruby and Jane A Cudlip was registered in Taunton, Tavistock RD, Devon, in the September 1916 quarter.
     Charles died on 12 February 1951 in Tavistock RD, Devon.
     His will was proved on 20 March 1951 in Exeter, Devon. Charles Henry Ruby of 11 Parkwood Cottages, Tavistock, died 12 Feb 1951. Probate granted to Cissie May Dawe, spinster. Effects £557/17/10.
