Lt Col William Frederick Steer

(5 December 1789 - 12 June 1871)
     Lt Col William Frederick Steer was christened on 5 December 1789 in Christ Church, Spitalfields, Stepney, London. [ITAL:William Frederick Steer [son] of Charles, merchant, Church Street, by Mary, born 19 August. He was the son of Charles William Steer and Mary Wood. Lt Col William Frederick Steer was educated in Charterhouse School.
     Lt Col William Frederick Steer married Lucy Gibbs (McDonald), daughter of John Gibbs and Mercy Smith, on 3 January 1825 in Cawnpore, Bengal Presidency, India. She was the widow of Lt Cosmo McDonald, of the 1th N.I. (whom she married 6 Sep 1819 at Dacca).
     He served in the 32nd Native Infantry in India. He retired in 1839.

William Steer 45, Army, born England, Lucy Steer 35, Fanny Steer 12, Frederick Steer 11, Henrietta Steer 6, none born on the same island, Letitia Steer 4, born England, with 3 female servants.
     William died on 12 June 1871 in Marazion, Cornwall, aged 81.

     Lucy Gibbs (McDonald) was christened on 29 September 1805 in Sultanpoor/Sultanpur, India. She was the daughter of John Gibbs and Mercy Smith.
     Lucy Gibbs (McDonald) married Lt Col William Frederick Steer, son of Charles William Steer and Mary Wood, on 3 January 1825 in Cawnpore, Bengal Presidency, India. She was the widow of Lt Cosmo McDonald, of the 1th N.I. (whom she married 6 Sep 1819 at Dacca).

Sophia Steer

(29 January 1791 - 21 October 1850)
     Sophia Steer was christened on 29 January 1791 in Christ Church, Spitalfields, Stepney, London. [ITAL:Sophia Steer [daughter] of Charles, weaver, Church Street, by Mary, 111? days old . She was the daughter of Charles William Steer and Mary Wood.
     Sophia Steer married Sir James Harington 9th Bart of Ridlington on 2 April 1817 in the house of Charles William Steer, Bhagulpore, India. Her father was listed as Charles Steer Esq., of Devonshire Square, London.
     Sophia Steer made a will dated 21 July 1849. Dame Sophia Harington: This is the last Will and Testament of me Dame Sophia Harington of Halkin Street in the County of Middlesex Widow I direct that all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses shall be paid or satisfied as soon as conveniently possible after my decease And whereas under and by virtue of the Will of William Steer formerly of Pall Mall in the County of Middlesex Esquire deceased bearing date on or about the twenty second day of October one thousand eight hundred and thirty I am entitled to the dividends interest and annual produce of the sum of five thousand pounds three pounds per cent Consolidated Bank Annuities for my life and after my decease the same sum is payable transferable or assignable to such person or persons or applicable for such intents and purposes as I shall by my last Will and Testament in writing or any testamentary paper to be signed by me in the presence of and attested by two or more witnesses direct or appoint Now I the said Dame Sophia Harington pursuant to and by force and virtue and in exercise and execution of the power to me for this purpose given by the said Will of the said William Steer deceased and of every other power or authority in anywise enabling me or which shall at my decease enable me in this behalf do by this my last Will and Testament in writing signed by me in the presence of and attested by the two persons whose names are intended to be subscribed hereto as attesting witnesses direct and appoint and also bequeath the said sum of Five thousand pounds three per cent Consolidated Bank Annuities and the stocks funds or securities in or upon which the same may be placed out or invested at the time of my decease unto my dear son Sir John Edward Harington Baronet to and for his own absolute use and benefit And as to all the Real and Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever not hereinbefore disposed of which I am or at my decease shall be seized or possessed of or otherwise in any manner entitled to or empowered to dispose of for any estate interest or right whatsoever I devise and bequeath and by virtue of every power enabling me or which shall at my decease enable me so to do direct limit and appoint the same unto my said dear son To hold the same unto him my said son his heirs executors administrators and assigns according to the nature thereof respectively for his and their own absolute use and benefit And I appoint my said son sole executor of this my Will Provided always nevertheless that in case my said son shall depart this life in my lifetime then my Will is and by force and virtue and in exercise and execution of the power aforesaid and of every other power or authority enabling me or which shall at my decease enable me in this behalf I direct and appoint and also I devise and bequeath the said sum of five thousand pounds three pounds per cent Consolidated Bank Annuities and the tocks funds or securities in or upon which the same may be placed out or invested at the time of my decease And all the real and personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever which I am or at my decease shall be seized or possessed of or otherwise in any manner entitled to or empowered to dispose of for any estate interest or right whatsoever unto Dame Jane Agnes Harington ^[:SUP]11 the Wife of my said son Sir John Edward Harington her said heirs executors administrators and assigns according to the nature thereof respectively for her and their own absolute use and benefit and if my said son shall depart this life in my lifetime then but not otherwise I appoint my dear Brother George John Steer of Queen Ann Street in the City of Westminster Esquire and Charles Vine of the Audit Office in Somerset House and Shepherds Bush in the said County of Middlesex Esquire Executors of this my Will in place of my said son And I hereby revoke all other testamentary writings.
In witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand this twenty first day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine.      Sophia died on 21 October 1850 in West Halkin St, Westminster, London, St George Hanover Square RD, aged 59. She was buried on 28 October 1850 in All Souls Cemetery, London, Middlesex. Dame Sophia Harrington, aged 60, of 7 Fleet St, St Geo Hanover Sq.
     Her will was proved on 8 November 1850 in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury.
