The population in 1801 was 2208 (1600 being in the burgh). In 1811 - 2413; 1821 - 2649; 1831 - 2901 (2100 in the burgh); 1841 - 2662; 1851 - 2727 (2000 in the burgh); 1861 - 2300; 1871 - 2180; 1881 - 2009; 1891 - 2007; 1901 - 1848 with 1250 in the burgh).


OPR Christenings 1675-1854 (no entries 1690-99, March 1732 - May 1740, and (except for 3 in 1750) April 1746 - Dec 1751; marriages 1679-1854 (no entries May 1690 - Feb 1698 and July 1723 - Sept 1724, 1 entry for 1728; no entries Dec 1731 - Jn 1752, no entries (except 1) 1761 - Nov 1771); burials 1827-1854.
