Charles James Rumsey

(21 February 1857 - 3 May 1885)
     Charles James Rumsey was born on 21 February 1857 in Rolvenden, Kent. He was the son of Rev John Williams Rumsey and Ann Emily Hunn. Catherine, John, Frances, Henry, Harriett, Charles and James were listed as the children of Rev John Williams Rumsey in the 1861 census in the Vicarage, Rolvenden, Kent. He was tutor to the Siamese princes at Oxford and afterwards (1883-1885) private secretary to HH Prince Prisdang, Siamese Ambassador Extraordinary to the Courts of Europe at Paris.
     Charles died on 3 May 1885 in Paris, France, aged 28. There is a memorial to him at Rolvenden church.

Rev John Williams Rumsey

     Rev John Williams Rumsey was born on 6 December 1813 in Chesham, Buckinghamshire. He was the third son of Henry Nathaniel Rumsey, MRCS, of Chesham, Bucks and his wife Elizabeth Frances Catherine, daughter of Sir Robert Murray & Elizabeth, sister of Admiral Francis Pickmore.
He entered the publishing house of Longmans, receiving the freedom of the City of London through the Stationers Company. While preparing for Holy Orders he was in 1843-4, a schoolmaster at Norwell, Ntt, and afterwards headmaster of Orsett Diocesan School, Essex. He was ordained in 1850 and kept on the school in addition to his curacy.
The marriage of Rev John Williams Rumsey and Ann Emily Hunn, daughter of Capt Frederick Hunn and Frances Emma Pickmore, was registered in London, Strand RD, in the September 1843 quarter. They married by licence dated 1 July 1843 , he was of the parish of St Mary le Strand and she was of Chelsea, both single and 21 and upwards.
