     Alexander Sutherland 3rd baron Duffus was the son of Henry Sutherland (of Torboll). Alexander Sutherland 3rd baron Duffus was also known as Alexander Sutherland in records.
Alexander Sutherland 3rd baron Duffus married Morella Chisholm in 1433 in Scotland. He obtained Quarrellwood, Kinstearie, Brightmanie in reign of James II, by marrying Morella de Chesholme, heretrix of them. Farther, this Morella, was heretrix of the lands of Grieship, which she impignorat for 12 score merks, and gave same to tocher [marriage portion] with her daughter Dovach Sutherland, to Alexander Rosse, younger of Balnagowan; as also the lands of Clune, Clava, & Wester Urqhell, which she gave with her daughter Ussia Sutherland, to Alexander Dunbar of Westfield, of which marriage are descended all the families of Dunbar.
     Alexander died on 12 October 1479 in Duffus, Moray, Scotland. The Annals of Elgin states that he was buried with his wife in the churchyard of Duffus. The memorial was inscribed: Hic jacent duo nobili Alexr Sutherland, olim Dominus de Duffus --- Chisholm, Domina de Quarrelwood =, ejus spousa, qui obiit 12 Oct 1479.
