In 1508 Isabel Gur, widow of Richard Gur was admitted to the property (BRD/1/2/1). In 1579 John Gurre who had been admitted on the death of Richard Gur forty years before was readmitted because a fire in his house at Christmas 1575 had destroyed his evidence of title (BRD/1/2/2-3). In 1588 his wid., Margaret, was admitted for life, with remainder to their younger son, Richard (BRD/1/2/4). After Margaret's death the property passed in 1602 to William Gurr, brother of Richard, because Richard had died (BRD/1/2/5). In [1622] William Gurr's widow was admitted (BRD/1/2/6). In 1665 Isaac, younger son of Richard Gurr, was admitted on Richard's death, Elizabeth Gurr his mother being appointed guardian (BRD/1/2/7-8). In 1682 Isaac Gurr sold to Samuel Beard, son of Nicholas Beard, sen. of Falmer, the latter acting as guardian during his minority (BRD/1/2/9). In 1701 Samuel then surrendered the property to Daniel Beard of Rottingdean, yeo., his bro. (BRD/1/2/10).

John died on 3rd April 1917 at Vaulx Vraucourt when hit by shrapnel from German shelling. His grave is at Vaulx Hill British Cemetery. Hughie Bland was also a close friend of my Grandfather. Hughie Bland, John Gellion, Goldie Gabbett, Val Devonshire and my grandfather were nicknamed the “Syndicate of Yarramers” in the Battery.Only Hughie returned unscathed from the war.
