Bairnsdale Advertiser Tuesday 4 July 1911 - District residents - In the very early days of this district, when alluvial mining was flourishing in the creeks and gullies to the north of Bairnsdale, and when the only means of conveying stores, etc. to the gold seekers and the few settlers on the land was the pack horse, a familiar figure known to everybody was Mr George Allan Cocksedge. He was a quiet unassuming man and trusted servant for years of the late Mr F W Dreverman and others. In later years he took up residence at Bairnsdale following the occupation of book-keeper. Between three and four years ago, when in the employ of Messrs Barke Bros., Cunninghame he was stricken with paralysis from which he never wholly recovered, and on Sunday last he passed away to his rest. His age was 76 years. He leaves a widow and one son.

. He was buried on 4 July 1911 in Bairnsdale, Victoria. COCKSEDGE The friends of the late George Allan Cocksedge are respectfully informed that this remains will be interred this afternoon. The funeral is appointed to leave his late residence, McCulloch Strret, at 3 o'clock for the Bairnsdale General Cemetery. W Sharrow, Undertaker.
