He may be the John christened 06 Oct 1700 at Shermanbury, the son of John & Bridget Horley of Cowfold, (Morley - IGI) who were married at Shermanbury on 21 April 1696. If so, he had a sister Elizabeth bapt 28 Feb1696/7; William 3 Mar 1698, Charity 1 Jan 1702, Mary baptised 31 May 1704 at Shermanbury,who died 21 Aug 1704,& brother George bap 28 Aug 1709.
That John was probably born 02 July 1676 to William & Susan Godsmarke (Gosmarke - IGI) at Shermanbury who married there 27 June 1672. They also had William born 9 Feb 1672 Shermanbury, who died 24 Feb 1672, then William 22 March 1673 and possibly Henry 12 Jan 1679. However a John was also christened 11 March 1657 at Shermanbury - the son of Thomas. There are several refernces to Denmans of Shermanbury in the Sussex Poor Law records. He was the son of John Denman and Bridget Morley.

     Mary Ann Denman was christened on 2 August 1804 in Willingdon, Sussex. She was the daughter of John Denman and Ann Heatherly. Mary Ann Dempster witnessed the second marriage of James Dempster and Sarah Johnson on 28 June 1815, Ifield, Surrey; He was described as a widower of Mitcham.
Mary Ann Denman married Robert Osborn Dempster, son of James Dempster and Sarah Osborn, on 17 November 1825 in Willingdon, Sussex. Married by licence. They were both single of this parish and the ceremony was witnessed by Richard Dempster & her brother and sister Arnold & Louisa Denman. The marriage licence dated 15 November stated that Robert Dempster of Willingdon was aged 29 and upwards and Mary Ann Denman of same was aged 22 and upwards, spinster, for Willingdon church. A wedding present of china ware was later given to their grand-daughter Fannie on her marriage to AF Hooper..
     In Robert Osborn Dempster's will dated 6 May 1837 in Broadwater, Mary Ann Denman was named as executrix of the estate; Robert Dempster of Offington in the parish of Broadwater in the county of Sussex yeoman I give all my estate and effects whatsoever unto my dear wife and I appoint my said wife and Arnold Denman of Willingdon in the county of Sussex yeoman and George Dempster of Brighthelmstone in the county of Sussex executrix and executors. Signed Robert Dempster. Witnesses: Richard Dempster & Thos. Turner. She was widowed on 20 June 1837 on the death of her husband Robert Osborn Dempster.

     Mary Ann Denman was recorded on the 1851 census in Risden House, Hawkhurst, Kent. Mary Ann Dempster, widow, aged 46, born Willingdon, was housekeeper to George French, unmarried aged 30, a landed proprietor and fundholder of 500 acres employing 18 labourers, plus five servants.
     Mary resided at 6 Osborne Villas, Cliftonville, Hove, from 1858-1860. She proved her husband's will from this address. She was an executor of Robert Osborn Dempster's estate on 24 July 1860 in the Principal Probate Registry, London.
     Mary Ann Denman was recorded on the 1861 census in 6 Osborne Villas, Hove, Sussex. Mary Ann Dempster, head, widow, 56, lady, born Willingdon, Sussex. She had two general servants William Farmer (or possibly Turner) aged 42, born Hants, and his wife Ann, aged 39, born Hungerford, Berkshire. Living next door were Ellmans.
     Administration of the estate of George Dempster was granted to Mary Ann Denman, on 22 January 1862 in PPR Administration of the personal estate of George Dempster late of Emerald Hill Melbourne in South Australia (sic) bachelor deceased who died 5 Dec 1861 at Sea was granted to Mary Ann Dempster of 6 Osborn villas Cliftonville Brighton SSX, widow, mother.      Mary Ann Denman was recorded on the 1871 census in 34 York Rd, Hove, Sussex. She was living alone in a lodging house, aged 66, no occupation, born Willingdon.
     Mary Ann Denman were recorded on the 1881 census in 34 York Rd, Hove. Mary Ann Dempster, aged 76, a shareholder, born Willingdon.
     Mary Ann Denman made a will dated 10 July 1890 in Guildford, Surrey.      Mary Elizabeth Denne was born circa 1791 in Sarre, Kent. She was the daughter of Thomas Denne & Mary Collard. She was the daughter of Thomas Denne.
Mary Elizabeth Denne married Rev John Hilton on 20 July 1818 in St Nicholas at Wade, Kent. The Rev. John Hilton, clerk of Wingham, ba. = Mary Elizabeth Denne, spr. otp. Lic Wit: Thomas Denne, Sarah Denne. Mary Elizabeth Denne witnessed the probate of the estate of Thomas Denne on 10 May 1821; Proved at London 10th May 1821 before the Judge by the oaths of Mary Elizabeth Hilton wife of the Reverend John Hilton Clerk the daughter, the said Rev John Hilton and John Bridges the Executors to whom administration was granted having first sworn by commission duly to administer. I
     n the 1861 census Mary Elizabeth Denne was living as in the household of her son-law-law Rev Rennel Francis Wynn Molesworth in Betteshanger Parsonage, Northbourne, Kent, in Northbourne, Kent.      Mary died before 3 May 1866 in Sarre Court, Sarre, Kent. At Sarre Court, Kent, aged 75, Mrs Mary Elizabeth Hilton, of Sarre. She was the eldest dau. of the late Thomas Denne, esq., of Sarre Court, who died in 1821, by Mary, only child and heiress of Henry Collard, esq., of Gore-street, Monkton, Isle of Thanet. She married, in 1818, the Rev. John Hilton, M.A. (eldest son of John Hilton, esq., of Lords, near Faversham, Kent), who died in 1861, and is succeeded in the family estate by her grandson, John William Denne Hilton, esq., eldest son of the late Rev. John Denne Hilton (who died in 1853), by Elizabeth Frances, sister of Robert Steer Johnson, esq., of Temple Belwood, Lincolnshire. He was born in 1845. She was buried on 3 May 1866.
