     Margaret or Mary Stewart was born in Banffshire, Scotland.
Margaret or Mary Stewart married John MacPherson, son of unlinked early MacPherson, on 8 December 1763 in Kirkmichael, Banffshire, Scotland.

     Maria or Mary Stewart was the daughter of Robert, II Stewart, King of Scotland.
She was illegitimate (possibly the daughter of Isabella Boucellier) and married Sir John Danielston. See John Ravilious on the Medieveal mailing list for full details.

     Marjory Stewart was born circa 1350 in Scotland. She was the daughter of Robert, II Stewart, King of Scotland and Elizabeth Mure.
Marjory Stewart married John Dunbar 1st (4th) Earl of Moray, son of Sir Patrick Dunbar and Isabella Randolph, after 11 July 1370. The Earl married (in terms of a Papal dispensation dated 11 July 1370 [1371?]) his cousin Marjorie, a daughter of Robert, Earl of Strathearn, afterwards King Robert II, who survived him. She married, secondly, between 1391 and 1403, Sir Alexander Keith of Grandown, as appears from a Papal indult to him and her on 24 April 1403 to choose a confessor. She may have been the mother of Sir Alexander's daughter Christian, who married, about 1413, Sir Patrick Ogilvy (see title Airlie), but this is not certain. Her seal shows 'a lion rampant within a royal tressure.'

     Marjory Stewart was born circa 1380. She was the daughter of Robert Stewart Duke of Albany and Margaret Graham Countess of Menteith.
Marjory Stewart married Sir Duncan Campbell Lord Campbell. He married secondly Margaret Stewart, daughter of Sir John Stewart, before 12 March 1439/40.
     Marjory died before August 1432 in Lochawe, Argyllshire.

     Marjory Stewart (Campbell) was the daughter of John Stewart Earl of Athol and Eleanor Sinclair Countess of Atholl.

     Princess Mary Stewart was born circa 1452. She was the daughter of James, II, King of Scotland and Mary of Gueldres Queen of Scotland.
Princess Mary Stewart married Thomas Boyd Earl of Arran, son of Lord Robert Boyd and Mariota or Janet Maxwell, in 1469. The marriage was declared null and void and she was compelled to marry James, Lord Hamilton. Mary was granted a divorce from Thomas Boyd Earl of Arran before 1474.
     Princess Mary Stewart married Sir James Hamilton (1st Lord) as his second wife, circa February 1473/74. After the forfeiture of Thomas Boyd, earl of Arran in 1469, Hamilton married Boyd's widow, the Princess Mary Stewart, daughter of James II. Buchanan states that a divorce was made during Boyd's absence in Flanders, and the princess married Hamilton much against her will. Boyd, he adds, died not long afterwards. Another version is that Boyd was dead before the marriage was arranged. It probably took place in February or March 1473/4. On 25 April 1476 a dispensation was granted by Pope Sixtus IV to Lord James Hamilton and Mary Stewart as having married within the prohibited degrees.
     Mary died in May 1488.

     Princess Mary Stewart was the daughter of Robert, III Stewart, King of Scotland and Annabella Drummond.
She married firstly George Douglas, 1st Earl of Angus, secondly Sir James Kennedy of Dunure, thirdly Sir William Graham, fourthly, Sir William Edmonstone of Culloden.

     Mary Stewart Countess of Mar was the daughter of Esme Stewart Duke of Lennox and Catherine de Balsac.

     Mary Stewart Queen of Scots was born on 8 December 1542 in West Lothian (Linlithgowshire), Scotland. She was the daughter of James, V, King of Scotland.
Mary Stewart Queen of Scots married Henry Stewart Lord Darnley, son of Matthew Stewart 4th Earl of Lennox and Lady Margaret Douglas, on 29 July 1565 in Holyrood, Edinburgh.
     Mary died on 8 February 1586/87 in Fotheringhay, Northamptonshire, England, aged 44.

     Matthew Stewart 2nd Earl of Lennox was the son of John Stewart Earl of Lennox and Margaret Montgomerie Countess of Lennox.
Matthew Stewart 2nd Earl of Lennox married secondly Elizabeth Hamilton Countess of Lennox circa April 1494.
     A contract for the marriage of Matthew Stewart 2nd Earl of Lennox and Elizabeth Hamilton Countess of Lennox was signed on 9 April 1494.
     Matthew died on 9 September 1513 in Flodden, Northumberland, England.

     Matthew Stewart 4th Earl of Lennox was also known as Matthew Stuart in records. The use of the Stuart spelling began with Matthew Stewart/Stuart, 4th Earl of Lennox, the father of Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, who was the second husband of Mary Queen of Scots.
During the early part of his life, Matthew Stewart served at the pleasure of the King of France in the Wars in Italy. He returned home at the death of James V in 1542. He took French nationality in 1537. From that date, the French [Stuart] spelling of his name began.
Matthew Stewart was the leader of the Catholic nobility in Scotland. Lennox was instrumental in the marriage of his son, Lord Darnley, to Mary I of Scotland. In 1570, Lennox became regent for his grandson, James VI, but the Queen's party declared war against him and he was killed the next year. He was born on 21 September 1516 in Scotland?. He was the son of John Stewart 3rd Earl of Lennox and Lady Anne Stewart (Countess of Lennox).
Matthew Stewart 4th Earl of Lennox married Lady Margaret Douglas, daughter of Archibald Douglas 6th Earl Angus and Princess Margaret, Tudor, Queen of Scotland, circa 1544. She became the Countess of Lennox. Matthew was Regent of Scotland in 1570.
     Matthew died on 4 September 1571 in Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland, aged 54.

     Murdoch Stewart 2nd Duke of Albany was born circa 1362. He was the son of Robert Stewart Duke of Albany and Margaret Graham Countess of Menteith.
Murdoch Stewart 2nd Duke of Albany married Isabella Lennox Duchess of Albany, daughter of Duncan Lennox 8th Earl and Ellen Campbell Countess of Lennox, in 1391 in Scotland. Murdoch was Regent of Scotland in 1425.
     Murdoch died on 25 May 1425 in the Castle, Stirling, Scotland.

     Nicola Stewart married Alexander Dunbar, son of Alexander Dunbar and Grizel Dunbar (Dunbar) (Cunningham). She was the daughter of Alexander Stewart 6th of Garlies.

     Robert Stewart was the son of Robert Stewart Duke of Albany and Muriel Keith.
     Robert died in 1424 in Verneuil, France.

     Robert Stewart was the son of Sir Robert Stewart.
     Robert resided at Durisdeer, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
     Robert died in battle on 21 July 1403 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

     Robert Stewart was the son of Alexander Stewart.

     Robert Stewart was born in Scotland. He was the son of Murdoch Stewart 2nd Duke of Albany and Isabella Lennox Duchess of Albany.
     Robert died in 1421. He left no issue.

They had a Papal dispensation for the marriage on 9 Sep 1361, he was her fourth husband. Robert was created Earl of Fife in 1371 and Duke of Albany 28 Apr 1398, Earl of Atholl 2 Sep 1403.
Robert Stewart Duke of Albany married Muriel Keith, daughter of William Keith Marischal of Scotland and Margaret Fraser, after 4 May 1380. They had a Papal dispensation to marry on 4 May 1380. Robert was Regent of Scotland, Great Chamberlain of Scotland 1392-1408 after 1406.
     Robert died on 2 September 1420. He was buried after 2 September 1420 in the Abbey church, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland.

     Robert Stewart Lord of Lorn was the son of Sir John Stewart.
Robert Stewart Lord of Lorn married Margaret Stewart (Stewart), daughter of Robert Stewart Duke of Albany and Margaret Graham Countess of Menteith.
     Robert died after 1438.

     Robert, II Stewart, King of Scotland was born on 2 March 1316 in Paisley, Renfrewshire. Robert II, King of Scotland, first of the Stuart line, was the only son of Walter Stuart and Marjory, daughter of Robert Bruce. He was the son of Walter Stewart and Lady Marjory Bruce.
He was the 7th High Steward of Scotland, & was in command at Halidon Hill 19 July 1333 in consequence of which his estates were forfeited and conferred, by Balliol, on David (of Strathbogie), Earl of Atholl. Robert was Regent of Scotland from 1338 to 1341. Robert was created Earl of Atholl on the resignation of William Douglas, of Liddesdale, Earl of Atholl on 16 February 1341/42. Robert was again Regent of Scotland from 1346 to 1357.
Robert, II Stewart, King of Scotland married Elizabeth Mure, daughter of Adam Mure, after 22 November 1347. They received a papal dispensation 22 Nov 1347 which legitimized their four sons and five daughters. A marriage between Elizabeth Mure of the diocese of Glasgow & Hugh Giffard of the diocese of St Andrew's, contracted when he was 9 and she 11, was dissolved by the Pope xiii Kal. Juniii 1345. They had 10-13 children.
Robert, II Stewart, King of Scotland married secondly Euphemia Ross Countess of Moray after 2 May 1355 in Scotland. As Countess of Moray, she then married (Papal dispensation dated 2 May 1355) as his second wife, Robert Stewart, Earl of Strathearn, afterwards King Robert II. They received a papal dispensation by Pope Innocent VI. Robert was created Earl of Strathern in 1358.
He also had eight known illegitimate children. Robert, II Stewart, King of Scotland was also known as King Robert II in records. Robert succeeded his uncle, David II as King of Scotland on 22 February 1370/71.
He acted a prominent part in the affairs of government during the minority of David II. He held the office of regent of Scotland during the captivity in England of his uncle David, 1346-1357, and succeeded to the throne on his death in 1371. He was engaged for several years in war with England, in which he was aided by the French; lived chiefly in retirement during his latter years, the Earl of Fife being named regent in 1389
.
     Robert died on 19 April 1390 in Dundonald Castle, Ayrshire, aged 74. He was buried on 13 August 1390 in the Abbey, Scone, Perthshire.

     Robert, III Stewart, King of Scotland was also known as John Robert in records. Robert, III Stewart, King of Scotland was also known as John Stewart Earl of Carrick in records. He was born circa 1337. Third but second surviving son of Robert II whose name was John but took the throne as Robert III. He supposedly has a unique DNA marker. He was the son of Robert, II Stewart, King of Scotland and Elizabeth Mure.
Robert, III Stewart, King of Scotland married Annabella Drummond, daughter of Sir John Drummond and Mary Montfichet, circa 1367. They had seven children.
John Stewart, Earl of Carrick, afterwards Robert III. King of Scotland, eldest son of Robert II. He succeeded his father in 1390. He was probably about fifty years of age, and being of feeble character and indolent, left the chief power in the hands of his brother, the Duke of Albany (previously Earl of Fife). In the tenth year of his reign war broke out with England; Henry IV invaded the kingdom, and the Percies made an inroad the next year, 1401. The defeat of Douglas by the Percies at Homildon Hill took place in 1402. Robert, to guard against the ambitious designs of the Duke of Albany, sent his son, James, to France; but the young prince was taken prisoner by the English on his way, and his father died, broken-hearted, in 1406.
     Robert died "of grief" on 4 April 1406 in Rothesay Castle, Bute, Scotland. He was buried in Paisley Abbey, Renfrewshire.

     Son Stewart was the son of Esme Stuart 3rd Duke of Lennox and Catherine Clifton Dowager Duchess of Lennox.

     Walter was Regent of Scotland. He was born in 1292 or 1296. He was the son of James Stewart, 5th High Steward of Scotland by his spouse Gilles (or Egidia) de Burgh, daughter of Walter de Burgh, 1st Earl of Ulster. Walter's mother is sometimes identified as Cecily or Cecilia de Dunbar, but this identification is erroneous. He was the son of James Stewart 5th High Steward.
He was Commander at Bannockburn in 1314.
Walter Stewart married Lady Marjory Bruce, daughter of Robert, the Bruce, King of Scotland and Lady Isabella Mar, before 25 April 1315 in Scotland. John Ravillious wrote: This relationship would have then been in the 3rd and 4th degrees of consanguinity, requiring a dispensation. I am not aware of any reference to such a dispensation, for what is one of the most noticed marriages in Scots history. Based on the foregoing, I have indicated in my notes that (A) the marriage of Neil of Carrick and NN le Stewart occurred, but (B) Marjory of Carrick was the daughter of another (likely second) wife of Neil of Carrick.
If anyone has reference to the account for Walter the Stewart in Scots Peerage (probably around I:14 or so), perhaps there's a detail there I'd missed. However, it seems otherwise unlikely that Margaret Stewart was great-grandmother of Marjory Bruce.
Walter Stewart married secondly Isabel Graham after 1316 in Scotland. They had 2 sons John & Andrew and a daughter Egidia who married Sir James Lindsay, 2) Sir Hugh Eglinton of that ilk 3) Sir James Douglas of Dalkeith. Walter was 6th High Steward of Scotland.
     Walter died on 9 April 1327 in Bathgate Castle, Scotland.
The lands of Garlies and Dalswinton were granted to Sir Walter Stewart, descended of Bonkyl, the Garlies grant being just before the death in 1346 at Neville's Cross of John third earl of Moray, as recorded in the introduction to the Galloway charters under GD138, “The earliest charter of Garlies is undated but was in the reign of David II, when John Randolph, Earl of Moray, granted the lands of Garlies, Glenmannoch and Corsok to Sir Walter Stewart the father of the above Marion” who was the heiress who married Sir John Stewart de Foresta. Unfortunately the location of this charter is not recorded, if it still exists, but it is in the list in Appendix ii to Vol i of RMS, no 1260.

     Walter Stewart was born in Bonkyll, Scotland. He was the son of Sir John Stewart (of Bonkyll) and Margaret de Bonkyll.

     Walter Stewart 3rd High Steward was also known as FitzAlan (of Dundonald) in records. He was born in 1173. He was the eldest son of Alan fitz Walter, 2nd High Steward of Scotland but which wife of Alan's was his mother is not clear. He was the first to use Steward as a surname, and was designated "of Dundonald". He was the son of Alan FitzWalter and Eve.
Walter Stewart 3rd High Steward married Lady Beatrix Angus. It is said they had eight children, 5 boys and 3 daughters. Walter married Bethóc, daughter of Gille Críst, Earl of Angus and his wife Marjorie, said to be a daughter of Henry of Scotland, 3rd Earl of Huntingdon.
He was appointed Justiciar of Scotland by King Alexander II, in 1230.
In 1239 he negotiated the marriage of Alexander II to Marie de Courcy. Walter was the third High Steward of Scotland, He was also justiciar of Northern Scotland. He raised Paisley Priory to an Abbey.
     Walter died in 1241 in Scotland. He was buried in 1241 in Paisley Abbey, Renfrewshire.

     Walter Stewart Earl of Menteith was born in 1219. He was the third son. He was the son of Walter Stewart 3rd High Steward.
Walter Stewart Earl of Menteith married Mary of Menteith Countess of Menteith before September 1255.

He was recognized as Earl of Menteith after the 12 Dec 1261 charter, but before 19 Jan 1261/2:
' Walterus Senescallus, comes de Menthet ' renewed and confirmed a grant of the church of Kilcolmanel in Kintyre to the abbey of Paisley on that date [Red Book of Menteith II:216, citing Registrum Monasterii de Passelet, p. 121[12] ].
'Hugh de Abyrnethine', received grant of £ 20 lands in Aberfoyle, Menteith from Isabella, (deprived) countess of Menteith, before Jan 1261/2.
He fought at the Battle of Largs, 1263 and was witness to the marriage contract of Margaret of Scotland and King Eric of Norway, dated Roxburgh, 25 July 1281. Walter Stewart Earl of Menteith was widowed before 1286 on the death of his wife Mary of Menteith Countess of Menteith.
'Walterus Senescallus comes de Menethe ', together with his sons Alexander and John, entered into a bond with Robert de Brus, Walter, earl of Menteith and others at Turnberry, 20 Sept 1286 'to adhere to the party of Richard de Burgh, earl of Ulster and Sir Thomas de Clare'.
'Gauter de Menetehe ', one of the Earls of Scotland attending the Parliament at Brigham, which confirmed the Treaty of Salisbury with England, 14 Mar 1289/90 (Stevenson I:129-130, No. XCII[14]).
'Meneteth (Meinteth), comes de, Walterus, (Wautier comte de Meinteth) ' - swore allegiance to King Edward I at Berwick, 1291.
He was a supporter of Bruce the Competitor for the Scots crown, 1291 (Barrow p. 388)[7]: 'Walter, earl of Menteith', one of the auditors for the claim of Bruce at Berwick, 2 June 1292.
'Terra Comitis de Menteth de Knapedal ', his lands in Knapdale included in the Sheriffdom of Lorne under the ordinance of 1293.
     Walter died before 28 April 1296. He possibly died in 1295; his seal 'S'Walteri Senescalli comit'de Menetet' used apparently by his son at Berwick, 28 August 1296. He was buried in Inchmahome Priory, Lake of Menteith, Perthshire.
