     John matriculated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge University, on 1 May 1696. John was a clergyman at Yorkshire between 1700 and 1715. He was ordained deacon 22 Sep 1700, priest Sep 21 1701, curate of Ryther 1701, Perpetural curate of Stillingfleet 1705-8, Rector of Escrick 1708-1715 and Vicar of Trinity Church, Hull in 1715.
Rev John Wilkinson married Elizabeth Banks, daughter of Rev Robert Banks and Margaret Thornton, on 18 June 1713 in Holy Trinity, Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire. They had no issue.

     Isabella Wilkinsonne made a will dated 7 January 1658/59 in Kingston upon Hull. In the name of God Amen: The Seventh day of January 1658 I Isabell Poppelwell of Kingston upon Hull widow being weak and infirm in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory Praised be god do make & ordain this my last will and Testament First and principally I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God my most gracious creator & preserver hoping for salvation through the meritorious death and passion of my blessed Lord ^ and Saviour Jesus Christ and by no other means. And my body I Commit to the earth whereof it came to be buried in Saint Maries Church of the Town of Kingston upon Hull, so near my late Husband William Popplewell as conveniently may be And for my temporal estate wherewith it hath pleased God of his mercy to endow me I ^ do give and dispose of the same as followeth
That is to say I do give to the poor people of this Town of Kingston upon Hull the sum forty shillings
And to the poor people of Fortinrow Thorpe and Baye in the County of York ^ the like Sum of forty shillings to be distributed at the discretion of my executors hereafter named within one month next after my decease.

And I give & bequeath unto Jane Harding the wife of Richard Harding of Scarbrough Tanner the sum of forty pounds of lawful English money to be paid her within one year next after my decease And if she die, the said sum or legacy being unpaid then I will the same to be paid and divided amongst her three sons & grandchild namely Gregory Harding Richard Harding younger William Harding and Jane Stevenson.
And I give & bequeath unto the said Gregory Harding the sum of thirty pounds;
And to Richard Harding the younger, the sum of twenty pounds
And to the said Jane Stevenson the sum of ten pounds of lawful English money to be paid them within one year next after my decease or as soon as they can or shall sufficiently acquit and discharge my executors of the same legacies respectively
And I give unto the said William Harding (if he be living at the time of my death) the sum of twenty pounds lawful English money And if he be dead then I will the same legacy to be paid and divided amongst his brethren;
And in case any other of them the sons of the Said Richard and Jane Harding do happen to die before payment of the legacies aforesaid or before the same become due, that then the sum or legacy of the party so dying shall redound and be paid to the survivors or survivor of them as my executors hereafter named can or may be lawfully acquitted and sufficiently discharged of the same;
And I give and bequeath unto Dorothy Stevenson daughter of the said Richard and Jane Hardinge, and now wife of Harley Stevenson, the sum of ten pounds, to be paid her within one year next after my decease upon a sufficient acquaintance to my executors for the same

Robert Popplewell of Gainsborough in the County of Lincoln Joyner the sum of forty and four pounds of lawful English money to be paid him within one year next after my decease and I freely remit and forgive unto him all such debts and sums of money as he is resting indebted unto me or my late husband William Popplewell deceased
