Captain Emanuel Hungerford

     Captain Emanuel Hungerford was born on 1 February 1785 in Cork, Ireland. The family were of Inchodony, near Clonakilty, county Cork. He was the son of John Becher Hungerford and Ann Daunt.
     Captain Emanuel Hungerford married Catherine Loane, daughter of Robert Travers Loane and Catherine Moore, on 1 February 1813 in Ballymoden, Cork, Ireland. Or 2 October 1813?.
     He served as a Lieutenant in the 32nd Foot before 1827. He was later a captain in the South Cork militia Notes to the portrait of Emanuel Hungerford (1785-1872). Grandson of Richard Hungerford, Inchidoney he married a Catherine Loane. Captain of South Cork Militia. Due to poor health he left Cork for Australia in 1827 taking with him his wife, 8 children, schoolmaster, overseer and several servants. Based in Sydney, he was the first Hungerford to settle in Australia (c.1814)..
     Captain Emanuel Hungerford arrived per "Alexander Henry" in May 1828 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
     Captain Emanuel Hungerford was recorded in November 1828 census in New South Wales. Emmanuel 43, farmer, Catherine 40, John 15, Robert 13, Emanuel 11, William 9, Henry 7, Thomas 5, Septimus 3, Ann 1, all Protestants,arrived free on the Alexander Henry in 1828.
