Charles Meldrum

     Charles Meldrum (1821-1901) a grandson of Cosmo McPherson of Ellick, became Professor of Maths & Director of the Royal Observatory Mauritius. His son Col. Sir John Farquharson KCB was Director General of the Ordnance Survey 1894-6; he had assumed the name Farquharson in 1871 as heir to the estate of Corrachree (near Tarland ABD) under the will of an uncle. Charles Meldrum was born on 29 October 1821 in Tomintoul, Kirkmichael, Banffshire. He was the son of William Meldrum and Isobel MacPherson.
