It appears a fire had been lit at some distance from the house for the purpose of boiling food for the pigs; the little one wandered to the spot, and in endeavoring to burn a dried-up thistle unfortunately ignited her clothes. Before help arrived the little one was dreadfully burnt, and Dr. Birch was immediately sent for to attend the sufferer. The injuries were so severe, however, that medical skill proved of no avail, and the little girl, who was only four years of age, succumbed to her injuries the following afternoon. She was interred in the Alberton cemetery on Monday afternoon there being a large number o the residents sf the district present at the sad ceremony.. She was buried on 15 January 1894 in the Wesleyan section.
