Clark Rose, William, eldest son of A. Bland, Esq., to Sarah Anne eldest daughter of William Scott, Esq., both of Yarram. William was a butcher between 1895 and 1896, in Yarram. William was a farmer in Yarram.
William resided at Yarram, 1908. He was an executor of Harriet Bullett's estate on 8 March 1910 in Victoria.
William died on 8 January 1928 in Yarram, Victoria, Australia, aged 71. Mr & Mrs W Bland pass away: Double funeral yesterday: The death of ex-Cr William and Mrs Bland which came as a happy release on Sunday last, after two years and eighteen months suffering respectively, takes one's mind back to early Yarram. Mr Bland came out to Australian with his late father Mr Abraham Bland in the fifties, and spent practically his whole life in Yarram. Although born in Suffolk, he came to Australia when a boy.
The history of the Blands is well worth recounting. The late Mr Abraham Bland, who owned the well known 'Aylesbury' property, Yarram, landed at Port Albert on 10 August 1857, having come with his wife and children from Birkenhead, England, in the ship Star of the South to Melbourne. Born in Hessett, close to Bury St Edmunds, in the county of Suffolk in the year 1832, the late Mr Abraham Bland came from an old yeomanry family, and on, the completion of his education, followed farming pursuits in his native land for some years. He married in 1852 Miss Harriet Bullett, also a native of Suffolk. On arrival at Port Albert he worked for the late John Carpenter, a well-known sawmiller and contractor, and proved himself adept in that line of business for seven years. He then rented 'Aylesbury' property from Mr Carpenter for four years when he purchased it, and went in for farming, dairying and grazing till his death in 1898. He was the proprietor of a flour mill in Yarram, which was destroyed by fire, as were also a three storied building erected to replace the original. The later Mr Abraham Bland was for thirty years a member of the shire council.
The late Mr William Bland followed in the footsteps of this father. He, too, was a shire councillor, and president in the year 1906-7. He was connected with the land, and for years conducted a butcher in Yarram. He married Miss Sarah Ann Scott, the eldest daughter of the late Mr William and Mrs Scott, and reared a family of five daughters - Mrs Maxwell (Ada), Mrs Lawson (Una), Miss Elsie (who remained home), Miss Gwen (who passed away) Mrs Martin (Iona), and two sons, Messrs Chas & Leslie Bland, who are successful farmers in this district. The late Mr & Mrs Bland were married in Trinity Church, Yarram, both at the age of 21 years. At death they were 71 and 70 respectively, not a year separating them. It was a coincidence that both passed away on the same day, and neither knew that the other had gone. They were faithful adherents of the Methodist Church, highly esteemed by all, and amongst the pioneers of the township of Yarram. Yesterday they were laid to rest in the same grave in the Alberton General Cemetery, the service being read by Rev R S Morris. The funeral was largely attended. Mr Jas S Graham had charge of the arrangements. He was buried on 10 January 1928 in the Methodist section of the Alberton cemetery.
