Paul Durdy

     Paul Durdy was born on 25 January 1787 in Beckingham, Nottinghamshire.
Paul Durdy married Elizabeth Stanser, daughter of John Stancer and Ann Reaynes, on 8 February 1813 in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. Leslie Morris descends from this marriage and he writes: They appear to have lived in Worksop all their married life having 8 children. Paul was in occupations involving horses - Ostler, chaise driver,postilion and at the time of his death in 1848 a postboy. Elizabeth was still alive at the 1851 Census and I believe died in 1854.
I think that John and Ann may have married at Blythe on 15-06-1778, but I cannot be certain of this.
In the Worksop 1811 Census there are 3 Stancer families. J Stancer at Bridge St, 5 persons - 2 male and 3 female. This is I think John and Ann and 3 children. George Stancer also in Bridge St again 5 persons 2 male and 3 female. I have not been able to find out any more about this family. Finally John Stancer at Lead Hill, just 1 ma1e and 1 female. This is I think elizabeth's eldest brother. He married Elizabeth Theaker at Worksop on 26-11-1810. They are still at Lead Hill in 1841, both aged 60, John's occupation being a currier

     Paul Durdy and Elizabeth Stanser were recorded on the 1841 census in Market Place, Worksop. William Stancer aged 45, labourer; Ann Stancer, 50 & Sarah Stancer 45, dress-maker & William ... butcher, are in the same building as the Durdy family headed by Paul & Elizabeth and their children John 25, Attoney's clerk and Charles 12, all born in the county.
     Paul died after being thrown from his horse near the Angel Inn in 1848 in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
