First I bequeath my soul to my Creatour & maker trusting in the merits & passion of my only Saviour & Redeemer, that all my sins are forgiven & Washed away in & through his passion & pretious blood shed upon the Crosse: And my body to be buryed at the discrecion of my Executrix hereafter mencioned and as for my lands Tenements Goods & chattels which the Lord in his mercy hath bestowed upon me I do give & bequeath as Followeth
     Imprimis I Give & Bequeath unto my dear wife Margaret Poplewell all my messuages tenements & other buildinges and all my land Arable Meadow or pasture with their & Every of their appurtenances situated & being in Burton super Stayther and in Belton within the Ile of Axholme & in Morton near Gainsbrough and now in the possession of Edward Morton William [Hunsley/Himsley] & Thomas Burton To have & to hold all the aforesaid premises for and during her natural life And after her decease to these persons here after mencioned (that is to say) as to that house in Burton super Stayther with its appurtenances I give & bequeath unto my Sister Mary Ward (if she do over live Margaret my Wife) for & during her natural life
     And after her decease to George Poplewell my nephew son of Robert Poplewell of Missen to have and to hold to him & his heires for Ever And as to the messuages arable land meadow or pasture in Burton aforesaid after the decease of Margaret my Wife I give & bequeath to my Nephew George Poplewell aforesaid to have & to hold to him and his heirs for ever he paying such legacies as are hereafter mencioned (that is to say) To his sisters Elizabeth Poplewell and Dorothy Poplewell Either of them ten pounds a piece to be paid at the time of their marriages or when they are one & twenty yeares of age which shall happen first And if Either of them dye before the dayes of payment then my Will & mind is that She that's living have the ten pounds due to her Sister if she had been alive
     Also it is my will & mind that if my said nephew George Poplewell his heires or Assignes doe not pay unto his two Sisters either them the said Ten pounds a piece at the time before Expressd then the said Elizabeth & Dorothy or either of them which shall be alive at that time) shall have full power to enter to the said messuages & to all the grounds belonging to them and the same to possess & enjoy until the said sum of Twenty pounds be paid & all charges concerning the same provided it be after the death of Margaret my Wife
     And as to the Messuage land meadow & pasture with all the appurtenances in Morton near Gainsbrough after the decease of Margaret my wife I give & bequeath unto my nephew George Poplewell the son of George Poplewell draper of Gainsbrough to have & to hold to him & his heirs for ever he paying these legacies here after mentioned (viz) To his three Sisters Prudence Bridget & Elizabeth Five pounds a piece at the time of ^ their marriages or as they come to the Age of one & Twenty years which shall come first And if any of them dye before the dayes of payment then my will & mind is that she or they that are living ^shall have her or their partes that¹s dead
     Also it is my will & mind that if my said nephew George Poplewell do not pay unto his three Sisters or to one or two which shall be then alive the said sum of Fifteen before Expresst at the times aforesaid then the said Prudence Bridget & Elizabeth all or any of them then living) shall have ^ full power by this my will to enter to the said messuage & to all other grounds belonging it by this bequest and the same to possess & enjoy until the said sum of Fifteen pounds be paid & all charges concerning the same provided it be after the death of Margaret my Wife
     And whereas my brother William Poplewell late of Gainsbrough deceased did by his & will & testament give & bequeath unto my brother Thomas Alvestry & my sister Mary Ward aforesaid twenty shillings a year a piece to be paid out of this aforesaid Messuages & landes during their two lives as by the said Will doth more fully appear It is my Will and mind that Margaret my Wife doe pay to my said Brother & sister the said Twenty shilling a piece (viz) To each of them upon Lammas day ten shillings & Candlemas day other ten shillings according to the intent & meaning of the will
     Also it is my will & mind that if my said brother Thomas Alvestrey & my sister Mary Ward both or either of them doe overlive Margaret my wife Then that my nephew George Poplewell the son of George of Gainsbrough do pay to them both or either of them during their lives the said twenty shillinges a piece according as before Expresst and also To my sister Mary Ward twenty shillings a year more during her life at the same days of payment before mentioned or her other twenty shillings given by my brother
     Item it is my will & mind that if it should fall out that the said George Poplewells my two nephews aforesaid do either of them dye before Margaret my wife then those messuage or messuages & all other lands whatsoever which should have descended by this bequest of mine to him being dead, shall descend to him thats alive the ... whether of them it ... is to his heirs for ever And if my said two nephews both dye then it's my will & mind That all the messuages tenements & buildinges & all the other lands by this my will bequeathed to my wife for her life shall descend to Geo my two nephews George Johnson & William Johnson sons of Thomas Johnson of Gainsbrough & to them & their heirs for ever they paying those legacies abovesaid to all the parties which my two nephews should have paid if they had livd:/:
     Item Its my will & mind & I do give unto my niece Elizabeth Johnson of Gainsbrough ^ Twenty poundes & to her husband Thomas Johnson Five poundes and to George & William Johnson their children either ^ of them Ten poundes a piece
     Item I give unto my nephew George Poplewell of Gainsbrough draper & unto his wife Prudence his Wife either ^ of them Ten shillinges to buy them ringes for a remembrance of me
     Item I give unto all the children of Mary Ward twenty shillings a piece
     Item I give unto my nephew Thomas Alvestry & his wife either of them of them five pounds a piece
     And to my two nieces Anne Alvestry & Barbara Alvestry his sisters either of them twenty shillinges a piece
     Item I give unto my nephew Thomas Yorke & Chariman his wife either of them forty shillings a piece & to every one of their children ten shillings a piece
     Item I give unto my nephews Symon Yorke & Bartholomew Yorke that Bond betwixt them which Symon owes me, & that Forty shillinges I lent him to -e-e--- him out of prison
     Item I give unto my nephew John Grasham & his wife Either of them Twenty shillinges & to Every one of their children Five shillinges a piece
     Item I give unto my Cousin Francis Thornhill & to Margaret his wife either of them twenty shillinges to buy them rings for a remembrance of me
     Item it is my will & mind that all these legacies be paid within a twelve month after my decease excepting these that have other times particularly express't in this my will & the two legacies given to George Johnson & William his brother sons of Thomas & Elizabeth & I would have given when they come to one & twenty yeares of age or marry which comes first
     Item I give ^ to all my household servants ^ five shillings more than their wages
     Item I give to the poor of Flixbrough Forty shillinges and to the poor of Normanbie & Burton twenty shilling to be distributed by the Church wardens & overseers of the poor as my executrix shall direct them
     And for all the rest of my goodes chattels bills bonds & all things whatsoever I give unto Margaret Poplewell my dear wife whom I make sole executrix of this my last will & testament: And do desire my nephews George Poplewell & Thomas Johnson of Gainsbrough to be supravisors of this my last will & testament to see performed according to the true intent & meaning thereof
