He is possibly (but no real evidence) the deceased husband of Isabella of Kingston upon Hull who is mentioned in her will of January 1657/8 and the uncle of Robert Popplewell the joiner of Gainsborough.

     His will was proved on 9 November 1556 at the Lincolnshire Consistory Court. The will was proved at Lincoln and the administration of the goods was committed to Richard Poplewell and John Poplewell, executors above name. Power being reserved etc for the plan committing the administration to Thomas Poplewell and Robert Poplewell coexecutors also above-named who --- and sworn in form of law, not themselves ---.

      Unable to find his death after 1871 (his daughter MA was in the workhouse in 1881, his son apprenticed & Rachel a servant). Was wondering if he went abroad looking for work, but have no proof.. William Popplewell was born before 4 November 1838 in Althorpe, Lincolnshire. He was christened on 4 November 1838 in Althorpe, incolnshire. He was the son of Thomas Popplewell and Sarah Pilkinton.

He may be the William of Belton, who was charged with stealing two strikes of wheat and one sack, of the value of 11 shillings, the property of Thomas Jackson of Belton, on the 19th instant, was committed for trial at the ensuing Kirton Q S. William Popplewell, the defendant in the preceding case, was charged with stealing a bac on the 13th instant, the property of Richard Maw, of the Levels, near Thorne. He was committed as in the other case. Admitted to bail. In April he was acquitted of larceny at the Quarter Session. He is also likely to be the William who as fined for drunkeness at Epworth on the 10th June 1861 and again for drunkeness and disorderly conduct at Westwoodside in August 1866.
