     Zachariah Cocksedge was christened on 20 February 1767 in Rougham, Suffolk. He was the son of Benjamin Cocksedge and Sarah Watkinson.
     Zachariah Cocksedge lived at Rougham, Suffolk, 1792.
     On the same day as his marriage, Rose Cocksedge aged 18 (daughter of Thomas Cocksedge of Cockfield) married Jn Crisp of Hartest, schoolmaster, widower, at Hartest. Possibly the sister of Zac as Zac's son claimed to have come from Cockfield.
     Zachariah Cocksedge and Elizabeth Hammond obtained a marriage licence on 4 January 1792 in Sudbury, Suffolk. Zachariah Cocksedge, of Rougham, schoolmaster, s.m. & Elizth Hamond of same,s.w., 18 years, at same (father Jn Hammond).
     Zachariah Cocksedge married Elizabeth Hammond on 7 January 1792 in Rougham, Suffolk.
     Zachariah Cocksedge and Sarah Watkinson and John Cocksedge were beneficiaries in Benjamin Cocksedge's will dated 3 December 1796 in Rougham. Zachariah was a schoolmaster at Bury St Edmunds Grammar School, Bury St Edmunds.
     Zachariah died before 21 December 1802 in Ampton, Suffolk. He was buried on 21 December 1802 in Ampton.

Zachariah Cocksedge

     Zachariah Cocksedge was christened on 9 September 1798 in Rougham, Suffolk. I have no proof whatsoever that the Zac in NSW is this man, he just seems the best age. He was the son of John Cocksedge and Mary Ann Howlett.
     Zachariah Cocksedge was involved in a criminal court case on 21 January 1822 in Suffolk. Zachariah Cocksedge was convicted at the Suffolk Assizes and sentenced to be transported for seven years for stealing a silver watch the property of William Osborn of Little Livermere. See the Bury & Norwich post for further details. He was transported to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, arriving 6 March 1823. On Mar 11 1823, he was on a list of convicts landed from the "Surrey" and forwarded to Minto for distribution.
     In 1824 he was on a list of assigned servants mustered in the employ of William Howe of Minto; in 1823-24 (Reel 6062; 4/1781 p.393a)

1824 Oct 8 - Carpenter. Assigned convict tradesman whose master was a defaulter in payment for (Fiche 3293; 5/3821.1 p.3).
     He gained his Certificate of Freedom on 9 Feb 1829, being described as a carpenter, native place - Bury St Edmunds, 5' 7" tall, light hair, grey eyes.
     Zachariah Cocksedge married Catherine Rielly on 18 November 1830 in Sydney?, New South Wales, Australia. Their application to marry was granted 18 Nov 1830: Zach Cocksedge, 30, Surrey (4), 7 years, free & Cath Rielly, 25. Asia? (7) 7 years, Bond.
     Zachariah Cocksedge married Ann Garraway on 3 October 1831 in St John's, Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia.

     Zachariah died before 24 August 1845 in Cockfield, Suffolk. He was buried on 24 August 1845 in St Peter, Cockfield.

     Zachariah Cocksedge married Phillipa Robinson on 26 October 1815 in Cockfield, Suffolk. I have followed Ray Long on assigning this marriage, etc to the son of Rebecca, although with misgivings because of naming a son Hammond, which suggests Elizabeth Hammond was his mother, however the age at death suggests this birth.
     Zachariah Cocksedge and Phillipa Robinson appeared on the 1841 census in Colchester Green, Cockfield. Zackriah Cocksedge, 50, ag lab, Phillippa 47, George 15, Charles 14, Abraham 12, William 10, Maryan 9, Sophia 7, Lucy 2, all born in the county.
     Zachariah Cocksedge was recorded on the 1851 census in Colenes... Green, Cockfield. Zachariah Cocksedge, head, widower, 58, born Cockfield, ag. labourer, with children William 21, ag. lab. born Thorpe, Mary Ann 19, Sophia aged 17, Lucy aged 12 all born at Cockfield.
     Zachariah Cocksedge appeared on the 1861 census in Cockfield. Zachariah Cocksedge, aged 72, widower, ag. labourer, born Cockfield, lodging with the Crick family at the Bridle Yard.
     Zachariah died before 16 June 1868 in Cockfield, Suffolk. He was buried on 16 June 1868 in St Peter, Cockfield.
