     A monumental inscription at Wordwell/West Stow states: Instituted April 1777 on the resignation of Mills. Presented by Augustus, Earl of Bristol. He was the son of the previous Roger Cocksedge.
     Roger Cocksedge jun., son of the rector, whom he assisted between 1780 & 1792.

The Bury Post on 6 Aug 1794 announced: On Thursday last died at Bramhall in Cheshire, the seat of Wiliam Davenport, Esq., the Rev R Cocksedge, jun. rector.

     Rev Roger Cocksedge M.A. was christened on 24 May 1716 in St James, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. He was the son of Martin Cocksedge and Mary Brewer.
     Roger matriculated at Queens' College, Cambridge University, on 19 March 1735/36. He was admitted sizar at Queens College, Cambridge March 19 1735/6. Matric 1736, B.A. 1739/40, M.A. 1743. Ordained deacon at Norwich December 1739, Priest September 1740. Rector of Wordwell 1746-50, Rector of Rattlesden 1750-63, Rector of Drinkstone 1750-63. Rector of Whelnetham 1767-96. Chaplain to Archbishop Cornwallis. Died March 14 1806 aged 90. Roger the Rector at Wordwell, Suffolk, between 1746 and 1750. A monumental inscription states: He was instituted Jan 1746/7 on the resignation of Layton. Presented by John, Earl of Bristol. Of Queen's College, Cambridge, BA.
     Rev Roger Cocksedge M.A. and Lina Whitely obtained a marriage licence on 2 January 1749/50 in Sudbury, Suffolk. Roger Cocksedge, s.m. rector of Wordwell, 32, & Lina Whitley, of Fornham All Saints, s.w. 24, at same or Westley.
     Rev Roger Cocksedge M.A. married Lina Whitely on 4 January 1749/50 in Westley, Suffolk. Roger was the Rector at Drinkstone, in 1751.
     Rev Mr Roger Cocksedge and his son Roger were mentioned in the 1766 will of his aunt Ann Brewer.
     He presided at a Mothersole marriage at Hesset in 1772.
     Roger was registered as a freeholder of land in Wordwell at Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, on the 1790 electoral roll.
     Rev Roger Cocksedge M.A. made a will dated 7 June 1805 in Bury St Edmunds. The will of Reverend Roger Cocksedge of Bury St Edmunds mentions the relict of his late son, Mrs Jane Esther Cocksedge and his great nieice Mrs Ord and great nephew Martin Thomas Cocksedge (to whom he leaves his Gentlelmen's magazine from 1792).
     Roger died on 4 March 1806 in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, aged 89. There is a memorial inscription to Roger and his wife at Little Whelnetham where he was rector. He was buried on 20 March 1806 in Lt Whelnetham.
