His referees were George Bland, Esq., Woranga and Rev V Dowsing, Methodist minister, Port Fairy.
     Ernest was registered as a clerk at Yarram on the 1912 electoral roll.
     Ernest served in the 9th Light Horse Regiment from 3 August 1915 to 3 August 1919. He served abroad for 1323 days in the Middle East.
Ernest Wilfred Ruby married Daisy Ellen Scott on 13 October 1915 in the Methodist church, Yarram, Victoria. They married while he was serving at the military camp, Broadmeadows, prior to going overseas.
