Margaret Robertson

(23 April 1878 - 24 March 1937)
     Margaret Robertson was commonly known as Maggie. She was born on 23 April 1878 in Wareek, Victoria. She was the daughter of James Robertson and Mary Ann MacPherson. Margaret Robertson was admitted to Maryborough, on 4 April 1899. She was admitted to Maryborough Hospital, aged 20, domestic of Carisbrook, single, Presbyterian, native of Wareek.
     Margaret Robertson married Edward Michael Colbert, son of Edward Colbert and Mary Hagan, on 29 March 1902 in Christ Church (Anglican), Maryborough, Victoria. They were both of Maryborough, he described himself as a miner aged 23. She was aged 24 and occupied in domestic duties. The witnesses were Robert Dean and Martha Robertson..
     Margaret and Edward were registered at Maryborough, Laanecoorie district, on the between 1903 and 1909 electoral roll.
     Margaret and Edward were registered as Edward Michael & Margaret Colbert, carrier & labourer at Leongatha, on the between 1908 and 1914 electoral roll.
     Margaret and Edward were registered as a labourer & home duties at Maryborough, on the between 1919 and 1921 electoral roll. They were still registered at Leongatha in 1917.
     Margaret and Edward were registered as Edward Michael, labourer, Margaret, home duties, James McIntosh, baker, Edward John, boot repairer at 8-10 Johnston St, Fitzroy, Victoria, on the between 1926 and 1928 electoral roll. In 1927 they were at no. 72.
     Margaret and Edward were registered as Edward Michael Colbert at 9 Roosevelt Street, Coburg, on the between 1931 and 1937 electoral roll. He was also listed in the 1931 Sands & McDougal directory for that year.
     Margaret was registered as Margaret Colbert, home duties at Coburg, on the 1931 electoral roll.
     Margaret died by suicide on 24 March 1937 in 17 Molesworth Street, Coburg, aged 58. The Age 30 March 1937 announced: Edward Colbert and family desire to thank all kind friends and relations for floral tributes, letters, cards and telegrams and personal expressions in the sad loss of our dear wife and mother. Will all accept this as a persnal expression of our gratitude. 17 Molesworth St, Coburg.. She was buried on 25 March 1937 in New Melbourne General cemetery, Fawkner. A coroner's inquest was held regarding her death on 27 April 1937 in Melbourne. She died from the effects of poisoning by a coal tar corrosive such as Lysol wilfully administered by herself the same day.
